Benson is controlling the search, not bohn.

Take this how you will. Gary was on the fan and talked about it.

basically said that Mike Bohns hands are tied and that for this program to succeed the administration need to change the way they operate.(benson)

Also there is a rivals story about Benson controlling the coaching search.

Benson doesnt want mac or leach Belotti. he doesnt want the legal things.Mac has his track record of the kind of kids he recruited. Leach locks kids in closets.

Gary said we arent gonna get leach or belotti either...

Bohn is agreeing with benson to save his job, since KU hasnt offered him a job.

I believe Gary. Benson is controlling the whole job search and the regents and mike need to get involved here. I hope its not true, because Bruce cares more about staying out of the news than getting the right guy.

So when is Benson calling John Gruden? I guess its either him or EB/Les Miles as everyone else seems to be nixed.

Maybe someone should set Logan up with some hookers and make sure 9news finds out about it before CU really goes down the wrong path.

I call shenanigans here. There's a search committee being formed. Benson isn't just pulling names out of hats or arbitrarily picking a name. I don't think he even has the final say here. I think it comes down to the regents on this one. I also think that the administration has finally gotten their collective heads out of their asses on the importance of football and athletics in general in maintaining a good PR face. I think we can blame lots of things past and present on the administration (university rather than AD) but another unsuccessful coaching hire will probably not be one of them.

Come on. Benson has only been the President of the University for 2 years, the guy is still trying to find the bathrooms. I have a hard time believing he is dictating down to Bohn who the next football coach will be. While I'm sure he will have some input into the process he isn't going to make the decision on his and without input from others in CU community.

Good for Gary . . . not that I necessarily believe him. Everyone who loves CU football should bring as much pressure as can be brought to bear on the administration. If the press and fans run with this "Benson is in control" story, maybe Benson will be forced to publicly acknowledge that the search committee is in control and privately back away from interference. Building the perception that the administration has been less than supportive of CU football is good, in my opinion.

Only in Denver could a guy who was FIRED still carry this much weight. The same media that absolutely destroyed the man loves to call him up for "inside" information. Cracks me up.

C'mon, we all know the kid prolly deserved it.

I don't believe this for one minute. It would be career suicide for Bohn to give up control.

If for some strange reason it is true, then God help us all.

I believe we all need to just relax and stop believing everything we hear or read. GB speculates just like all the rest of us. But this is just rumor mongering.

If Benson is in charge of selecting the next head coach we may be ****ed...the man doesn't care about sports, which is the schools major income.

CU chancellor DiStefano will leave coach search solely up to athletic director Mike Bohn

BOULDER – Colorado chancellor Phil DiStefano has an idea of the kind of coach he’d like the university to hire next, but will step aside and leave the details of conducting a search to athletic director Mike Bohn.

It doesn’t mean DiStefano won’t be one of a few CU officials Bohn needs to sign off on the new coach, just that he’ll be as little a part of the process as possible. DiStefano, however, did say he’d like to see a coach with big school experience. Dan Hawkins, who was fired on Tuesday, came from Boise State, which plays its games in the Western Athletic Conference...

i'm relieved to hear distefano say he wants our next coach to come from a big school. i guess that means no logan or calhoun. bohn must be heartbroken, though

don't believe what you read in the paper-
Benson is a control freak and his hands will be all over this hire. I have no trust in him right now.

This shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone. As much as Bohn's future rides on this decision, DiStefano and Benson also can't afford to let this go bad. They're going to want their grubby little fingers in this as much as Bohn's are because their futures ride on this too. They're already taking heat for the handling of the Hawkins situation, another failed coaching hire and all three are probably gone. Bohn for being a failure, and DiStefano and Benson for allowing Bohn to continue to be a failure.

Benson understands how important this is. Here's a quote from a camera article today:

He said academics are the school's No. 1 priority, but nationally televised football games are critical to CU's outreach, with shots of the Boulder campus capturing the attention of potential students and donors. "That's huge for us," he said. "It hits the donors. It hits the students. We want everybody to know that we have great programs. You can't buy better publicity."

Benson understands fully the implications of this hire and one would be mistaken to assume otherwise.
CU has more alums residing in California than in the entire Big 12 footprint. Benson understands that donations are the lifeblood of a university fighting for every dollar from a "give a damn" state like Colorado which ranks near the very bottom in the country in funding of higher education. His involvement in this process will be a positive and I doubt like hell he will micro manage, it's just not his style. Mike B. and Phil D. have the reins and they just need to submit a viable candidate.

Since his office is in Denver he's gonna have hard time finding the ones in Boulder.
