Bohn said that he has people at CU monitoring internet scum boards so I get to make my case for one person and I have openly supported Leach as the next CU coach but we need to take a look at McElwain and I apologize if this is not the first McElwain thread.

I looked at McElwain's bio and was very impressed with his exprience over the years.

He is the current Alabama OC and has won a NC in addition to a Heisman trophy winner as well.

We all know of his western roots but Big Mac wasn't from the west so that doesn't mean jack.

We all know that he made Pat Hill look good at Frenso State before getting the 'Bama job.

But what did he exactly do before Frenso State and even the Raiders of the NFL? What I am going to post could change not only your mind but my own mind.

Between 2003-05, he coached at Michigan State. During that time, there was a new record set for receptions and recieving yards at that school. In 2004 he had All-Americans at punter and kicker for the Spartans...and he coached 'em!

*gasp* we are talking special teams which was the biggest problem under Hawkins.

The funny thing is that he has a connection to Montana State and Eastern Washington. He was the QB for the EWU Eagles and graduated from there. They were D2 back then. Then he was the Montana State OC and they set some records there.

McElwain has coached at the FCS level, the mid-major FBS level, and now the BCS level with success.

Hiring a first time coach would be cheaper than hiring a proven coach and that is something I will concede that hampers CU's chances at getting Leach or Miles.

Just compared McElwain to EB's resume and it's obvious who has the better resume. Plus Crowder came from Bud Wilkinson's wonderful OU staff, McCartney came from Bo Schembler's wonderful Michigan staff, and could we say McElwain came from Nick Saban's wonderful Alabama staff?

Would be a good hire too. He has done a great job with Bama's offense despite McElroy having a noodle arm.

Voted no. Thanks for taking the time to write that up, he's obviously has the credentials. My fear being His recent success has been at schools with good resources. Money, talent, fan and school support. I'm of the opinion that we need to find a coach who will know what he's getting into with coaching at Colorado. Thus, my Mac support.

I think many coaches could do well, if CU would provide a little more support. But that's not the case right now. Heck, Hawk might have even been successful, if we had the facilities, money for coordinators...ect. Then again, maybe not.

I respect your opinion and I agree with the idea that McElwain might not be as successful at CU due to the difference in resources for 'Bama versus CU. However, the big bonus about having coached at 'Bama is that he has seen what it takes to have the program that 'Bama has and how he could help move CU in that direction. You could apply that to Crowder coming from OU and McCartney from Michigan.

Perhaps McElwain can tell Mike Bohn what needs to be done with facilities after being at 'Bama's facilities.

And 'Bama runs the football well as well. I wonder if he was intrustmental in the recruitment of Clay Matthews at Frenso State who later was the first round draft pick for the San Diego Chargers?

mcelwain scares me. he has all the tools to succeed but bama's offense is struggling. he has richardson, ingram, jones, that monstrous offensive line and a senior qb. there is no reason in the world that bama shouldn't be scoring at least 40 points a game

Another thought here: Since he played QB in college and that the Buffs are moving to a conference that is known to have good QBs, it just makes sense to hire McElwain and with his pedigree, he might be able to finally land a big time QB recruit in Boulder for the first time in what seems like forever.

That would surely sour me on McElwain but at the same time, 'Bama is going against SEC defenses week in and out. The Pac-12 is nowhere close to the SEC when it comes to defense. IMO, you are comparing apples to oranges as the Pac-12 versus the SEC style of football.

he already did. a while ago he said mcelwain was a fool. and i don't buy your sec defenses argument. sure some have great defenses, but arkansas and auburn have been lighting them up. auburn's offense made lsu's defense look like a bunch of retards the week before lsu held bama to 24 points

I'd take over Calhoun and Logan but there are other names out there I'd take over him.
I voted no.

I vote yes. I question whether Mac knows what he's getting into? When he coached 16 YEARS AGO, CU and college football for that fact was a very different place. Mac had all the support, money and momentum later in his career. He might have that same sense and walk into a debacle and then we will have lost one of the programs greatest legacy's forever. New conference, new start, new coach.

Very strong points here. Doesn't 'Bama have an elite QB such as Mallet from Arkansas and Newton from Auburn? CU hasn't had an elite QB recruit for what seems like forever. Perhaps with McElwain, the QB just needs to be a good game manager and I believe Joel Klatt was that type of QB.

I voted yes. I don't know if he's my top choice, but I like that he runs the O for a major program and seems to have a decent coaching tree. And those are the two factors I want if we're gonna go after a coordinator.

If Mac doesn't know what he is getting into then no one does. And the point of my post is not necessarily to advocate for Mac.

Don't agree, again he has been out of the HC spot here for a long time, sure he gets to come back and share his well deserved glory but he might not fully understand what takes place in Dal Ward on a daily basis or even on the recruiting trail. Maybe he does, but its not a foregone conclusion and therefore an easy pick.

He's one of many coaches I would not be disappointed to see. It's a crapshoot anyway until the guy gets in here and performs.

McElwain is in my top 10, but not top 5. Bama's success under Saban is mostly due to their defense.

I do think he could draw some interest from decent DC prospects, which rates him as a serious candidate. Wonder what it would cost to hire both him and Smart out from under Saban?

I voted no.

McElwin and the other Bama coaches need to spend a little less time with ESPN trying to make movie stars out of richardson, ingram, jones, and McElroy and a little more time coaching the kids and teaching them football.

Boulder isn't Hollywood. And frankly I don't want it to be.

I think people are realizing Tuscaloosa isn't either.

Who is Bo Schembler?

I voted yes, but like others here, he isn't my first choice. I agree that the majority of Bama's success has been due to their defense, but he does have quite an impressive resume including a heisman winner....so......

Mac has not been a ghost this whole time. He has been watching what has been going on in Boulder and around the country. If you bring Mac back, I feel comfortable he will only come back if the administration agrees to some major changes around the program. Including support, facilities, academics, assistants, etc. From recent interviews and articles, I think he has a good idea what needs to be done to be successful in Boulder. Whether he can accomplish all that is another issue.
