New HC and OC

Do we really think that Mac or EB or Miles or whoever else is really going to come here and be an OC or head coach in waiting or "Mentor" to some other guy. I just don't see any high-er profile name that we can get in here to be a OC that we can afford. Sorry to be a debbie downer.

I'm not understanding you, I think.

Are you saying that those guys wouldn't be able to hire good coordinators?

And are you saying that Les Miles isn't a high profile name?

If we are to believe all the talk about how much we're willing to pay a new OC, then we should be hopefully that we can get a real coordinator in here.

You are being too negative. This is a storied program that by all accounts has renewed administration support (and donor). We will get someone good in here. Heck Hawkins was a highly valued coach when we hired him, too bad he turned out to be a putz.

I also think you are assuming Mac is the guy and there will be a head coach in waiting. For one, Mac may not be the guy. Two, Mac has never said he wanted to take the job with a head coach in waiting working for him (he may or may not want an HC in waiting). Many here have suggested they would like to see a Mac/EB combo with the thought that EB is either the HC now and Mac is an adviser or Mac is coach and EB will take over shortly.

Nobody we hire will bring in coordinators from a top 10 program to work under them. If we want one of those guys here, we will have to hire him as HC. The one guy who might be in play is Malzahn - if another SEC school didn't snatch him up first. There are plenty good coordinators working at schools not in the Top 10. If we hire the right guy for HC, they will be in play.

I think the chances of Miles coming here for less than $4mm/yr are about slim and none. And slim just left town.

I think EB would take an AC job under Miles or Mac. He'd be pretty foolish not to, if he's serious about being a college HC. I like EB, but anyone with prior coordinator experience is more qualified than him for the HC job. He would have an uphill battle getting good coordinators to come here and work under him. Of the names that keep popping up, it seems like Mac or McElwain would be the best bet to bring in good coordinators.

I don't see Mac coming here as an AD or 'mentor' either. He said he wants to coach, and he probably has better things to do with his time than babysitting.
