Bobby Kennedy(current Texas WR coach) Needs To Be On Our Staff

Nope, he isn't related to the actual Kennedy family and he hasn't been shot at.

I think he is one of the most important hires we could make for the future. Kennedy is a native of Boulder, Colorado and he is Texas' WR's coach as well as their recruiting coordinator. He was responsible in helping bring Texas their #1 recruiting class, and was ranked as a Top 25 recruiter by Rivals.com.

Whoever is hired as HC needs to hire him away from Texas.

recrutiing good... i really don't like texas's WR's tho. I would take our corps over theirs any day of the week. all they've had for years was shipley. For them to not have a top flight WR corp (or even a good one) stuns me. good suggestion tho I have no idea how we would get him out of texas.

I guess it depends on how much you want to pay the next WR coach/recruiting coordinator, because I think you would have to match the titles he already has at Texas. He makes $193K right now, I would guess you would have to hike the salary to lure him away. Not sure he is even interested anyway.

Good find BuffInDC...maybe we will help save the CU AD money by not using Chuck Neinas and use our forum...wouldn't that be Allsome!

Will give you a rep.

Shipley and Limas Sweed and the TE, David Thomas? only notable UT WR's in the last half decade.

Jordan Shipley isn't quite athletic compared to many WRs out there but yet he produced big time at UT just like Scotty McKnight. He would be a fanastic add to the CU staff and right now things aren't going too good in Austin right now...I'm afraid that some heads are going to roll after this season down there.

The guy I have thought would be a good choice for position coach/recruiting coordinator is current Minnesota associate head coach/DL coach Tim Cross. He might actually be available after this season too. He graduated from UNC and started his coaching career at Thomas Jefferson HS in Denver. He knows the local high school scene and recruits CO for the Gophers, and he also heavily recruits Texas for the Gophers.

We got to keep it rolling on this board. If we can find a good number of those people who could come to Boulder, I'll be open to McCartney coming back.

He sounds like a good coach to me. I would imagine he would want to be OC for us.

If drastic changes are made to Mack Brown's staff at season's end (and I don't suspect they will be, although many fans want at least half the current assistants gone), then Kennedy may be part of the group who will soon be looking for jobs. He'd be a great recruiter but I'm really curious if a receiver can get better in four years under him.

Consensus pretty solid receivers under Kennedy:
Limas Sweed
Jordan Shipley
Quan Cosby

Head-scratchers:
Malcolm Williams (drops)
Dan Buckner (drops, legal issue then transferred)
Brandon Collins (arguably the #1 guy the last two years if he ever saw the field, but had tons of legal issues and was booted)

Don't know if the disappointments are on the player, Kennedy's development of them or Greg Davis' suspect playcalling. But I'd be cautious. He could probably recruit bigger, better athletes to Boulder. But would they get better, say NFL draft caliber better, by the end of their time here and get us playing for a national championship? Thinking Phil Savoy, Pat Williams types.

That would be another good hire. A good staff with ties to the local area would be great for the rebuilding process.

You could not be more wrong. I'll say that again, you could not be more wrong.
Ship was and is an amazing athlete. Speed, agility, cutting ability, body control, the whole package. Maybe not a huge vertical, I don’t know, but he scores a 10 in nearly every other “athletic” category. Dude was an ankle breaker. Look at all of the kicks he ran back for touchdowns.

On top of his raw athleticism you can add the typical “white guy” attributes of good rout running and good hands, but he has the elite base athleticism, without question. Slightly undersized, but that would be the only knock.

you may be an utter douche, but you are absolutely correct. Shipley was a beast, far far FAR more athletic than scotty.

That's the running joke on the Hornfans website. Making fun of the perception that white receivers are always perceived "only" as possession guys, coaches on the field, good route runners, good hands, good work ethic, etc. ...even if you're someone like J. Bloom and the fastest most gifted guy on the field.

White guys never have speed, but have "deceptive speed".

I'm certain Bohn is simply waiting until he hears from who you want before he makes his decision.

Keisau might have to be our wr coach/recruiting coordinator unless bohn buys him out.

I can live with this scenario if Prince does not return. Kies is a young talent with Pac connections and I think he's an asset when it comes to recruiting. Just keep the playcalling away from him. He ain't ready yet.

Because of you or Bobby?

I didn't play, so it must have been his fault. He couldn't blame his o-line, because Ariel Solomon was there. He couldn't blame his kicking game, because Ken Culbertson was there.

Two D-1 players on that team, and we sucked. I think they won 3 games my senior year.

He's doing well in the NFL too, no?

He single-handedly sunk any hopes of a CU upset bid last year (well, at least he did as much as anybody on the opposing team). He's a freaky athlete, I'm suprised anybody would say otherwise.

Scott Downing will not be returning as UNC's head coach next season. Before he moved to Greeley, he was the recruiting coordinator/tight ends coach at NU from 2003-2005. He was also on Joe Tiller's staff at Purdue for six seasons coaching the RBs and special teams. He could end up being a solid assistant on the next staff.

Interesting. Wasn't that a job Cabral interviewed for too? If he doesn't get the CU gig, I wonder if he'd ponder a move. That way, his wife could stay with her gig at CU.

Sorry - back on topic.

Nice catch, I am pretty sure he did interview for that job. I would have to think it would be appealing to him this time around too.
