I have to say I was impressed so far. The team seemed to be a wreck after KU and then DH got fired and Cabral, in just 5 days, smoothed over a really bad situation and prepared the team and took them to victory. And they looked good doing it. Thats leadership.
The big question mark when Dan was fired, imho, was what would Cody do? Would he quit? Would he throw the game? Or, most likely, would he just be an unfocused emotional basket case of some kind. Cabral seems to have most impressively smoothed the situation even telling the media that "Cody is the team's leader". A nice pat on the back. If Cody had imploded we would have burned a red shirt and started a freshman today and we'd probably have lost in more ways than one. Instead he seems to have given Cody confidence and put him in a position to win. Cody congratulating Cabral at the end was classy.
Overall I thought the game today looked much more well managed. Good combination of run and pass. Strong defense. Better kicking game. Great containment of ISU. And fewer penalties and poor play calling. Certainly the gased running game at the end is concerning but you can't blame Cabral for that.
I really don't know if he is the right guy. But if he wins out, and that is a tall order, he would have ended the road losing streak and he will have done it in Lincoln against a ranked team that is one of our favorites. For that achievement he should get consideration for the job in my humble opinion.
