SportsCenter U: Mark Richt a candidate for Colorado head coach

Anyone else see that? Weird that it would be reported there unless there have been some actual talks.

Ah, they did comment on the fact that the report seemed strange since he's still employed at UGA.

on my drive home yesterday from Atlanta, the sports update said Richt and Belotti were the leading candidates for the job. i believe it was sporting news radio.

not real wild about MR. MB is so so.

I like that we are going after some big-time candidates.

That being said, why bring an SEC guy to a west-coast conference?

I am far from a CFB expert here, but maybe some of the more knowledgeable posters can enlighten us: do SEC coaches have success recruiting outside of their home territory?

Richt would help pull talent from the SEC areas. That would be awesome. We have other recruiters who could handle the West.

this plus... richt has SEC syndrome which is affecting les miles... they are treating him like **** if he doesnt win 10 games a year... i honestly wouldnt put it past him if he bolted

Richt's buyout is ridiculous. No way he leaves all that cash.

The ESPN article stated: "According to the Denver Post, an unidentified source close to the search said the Buffaloes want to talk to the Georgia coach."

Richt laughed off a report that he could be a candidate for the coaching job at Colorado.

After a 49-31 loss to No. 2 Auburn, Richt was asked if he would be interested in meeting with the Big 12 school. Richt's response: "Georgia's my home."

So basically, someone at CU "would like to talk to Richt" gets turned into him being a candidate? I don't think so.

AUBURN, Ala. (AP) - Georgia coach Mark Richt laughed off a report that he could be a candidate for the coaching job at Colorado.

After a 49-31 loss to No. 2 Auburn, Richt was asked if he would be interested in meeting with the Big 12 school. According to the Denver Post, an unidentified source close to the search said the Buffaloes want to talk to the Georgia coach after firing Dan Hawkins a week ago.
Richt's response: "Georgia's my home.''

The Bulldogs (5-6, 3-5) have endured their second straight disappointing season, needing a win in their final game against Georgia Tech just to be bowl eligible. But Richt makes just under $3 million at Georgia, while Colorado has said it can't afford to pay more than $2 million for Hawkins' replacement.

Until we actually get something solid, which we haven't even come close to yet, we are going to get stuff like this. All it is is somebodies speculation being repeated often enough by other people who know nothing to make it sound legit.

The UGA AD stated to the press that Richt will be the their head coach next season.

Then Richt laughed off the CU talk in his presser.

Plus, it would cost Georgia about $7 million to get rid of Richt. That would cause a budget deficit for the AD this year.

All of which leads me to believe...

CU lock. :smile2:

This is the main reason the AD was loathe to fire Hawk mid season...you lose control of the process. You get all these unsubstantiated rumors and then the school gets dragged down after 25 "candidates" issue their denials, despite the fact that no offer was ever made.

im not following you. how do rumors make them lose control of the process? what power do these rumors have? they are just that. rumors.

Mark Richt > Dan Hawkins
I was joking before, but I actually think there's something to the Richt talk.

The UGA faithful feel pretty strongly that the Richt era has run its course and it's time for him to move on. Here's a good read (including the comments): http://blogs.ajc.com/mark-bradley-blog/2010/11/13/as-question-have-we-seen-the-best-of-mark-richt-as-ugas-coach/?cxntfid=blogs_mark_bradley_blog

He's pulled in some great classes at UGa. But he's never caught lightning in a bottle and it doesn't surprise me the UGa faithful or tiring of his schtick. His best coaching years might have been when he was OC at FSU.

I'll still take him though.

The rumors don't have power over the eventual hire. However, if you have a series of coaches coming out with statements like "I have no interest in the Colorado job", it can make the school look desperate.

meh. i suppose. however, i will submit that anyone paying attention can tell what is media driven speculation, fan driven speculation and silence from the AD. that being said, perception is reality so i can see where you are comming from. not something i would worry about though.

i have confidence that the AD will do its due dilligence. afterall, it is his job on the line too with this hire as i dont buy the KU rumors.

Georgia is Home is not an I am not interested in the colorado job

Richt is a pretty damn good coach and a good guy to boot. If Georgia gets rid of him, I would think the CU AD would be all over him. If he ever finds a good DC to go with his offensive expertise, things could get interesting.

That would be the best possible scenario, imo.

Richt lived in Broomfield from age 7 until nearly 14 years of age. His dad worked at IBM along Diagonal between Boulder and Longmont.

Guy is an Offensive Guru and Geogia is developing nicely this year. He went thru a period with a bad DC and took a lot of heat last year, but he fired 3 assistants and they are getting it going this year as the season goes on. Would take him in a heartbeat if he wanted to coach here for quality of life issues.

This morning, on Rivals Radio, Bill King said that the chances of Richt coming to CU are about the same as Jeff Gordon trading his car for a mule....

King said there is zero chance of MR going to Boulder -- and he was pretty disparaging in his description of the opportunity in Boulder.

Well.... **** Bill King.

King said there is zero chance of MR going to Boulder -- and he was pretty disparaging in his description of the opportunity in Boulder.

That dashed my hopes. But the analogy is funny.
