Potential monkey wrench in the coaching search?

Just wondering about what's happening in the NFL today:

If EB is our guy,(I THINK I hope he is)what do you think will happen if Chilly is fired? EB could be named HC (but I assume it would be Leslie Frazier). Can you think of any instances where a pro coach was hired to a college program in season? I think the Vikings would be more likely to let him walk if Chilly is still the HC. If not? Who knows?

Do we really want to wait until mid-January to name a hire?

Also, with the Texans losing today, Kubiak is likely out between now and the end of the year. Would Kubiak be considered? It sounds like he may have already had the job once, albeit for about 10 hrs. Do we go back there? He may have scorned the university, but none of the current regime was in place when that happened.

EB will not be HC for the Vikes this season. Only concern with EB is if Frazier is named next HC (not just interim) and retains EB in current position or as OC.

If EB was offered the CU HC job and was anything but an NFL OC, then I think he would take it regardless.

Kubiak will coach in the NFL, whether it is as Houston's HC or as an OC somewhere. I don't see him taking any college job, unless it is Texas A&M.

I think Frazier is going to be the HC there pretty soon. I do think that EB will be expected to stay with the Vikings until at least the end of the season but I would imagine that he would be allowed to talk to CU. Teams are usually a lot more flexible allowing a guy to announce plans and split some responsibilities when they are just playing out their seasons which will be the case for the Vikings in the next few weeks.

I have always thought Kubiak would make a good college coach. I know his kids went to CSU but part of that was because they were MWC level athletes, not Big XII level. At the same time what CU could pay is a major step down from what he is making in the NFL and I wouldn't be surprised if aTm doesn't go after him and that is were his heart is on the college level as well as being in Texas which he considers home.

Just curious, why the Kubiak hate? He isn't my first choice but he isn't a bad guy. Seems to be a pretty good coach without a lot of great talent to work with.

Notre Dame hired Weis during the season, but he finished the season with the Pats and took over after IIRC.

In general, I'm not a fan of going the NFL route. There is only one Pete Carroll, but plenty of guys like Mike Sherman, Bill Callahan, John Mackovic, etc.

I agree 100%. College coaches have generally been horrible in the NFL and vice versa.

The key to college is recruiting. Period. Kubiak has zero recruiting experience. Danger. Stay away. Do not hire.

Ain't gonna happen, I have no idea why they went after him back when anyway.

He was Tharps first choice. Tharp was impressed with his OC skills and at the time he was not that far removed from college as his is now. My guess would be that he was also a safe hire for Tharp since he was a pretty shinny squeaky clean choice. His only college experience was RB coach at A&M and playing the game there.

Mike Riley hire his ass away from the Beavers! Great coach with high standards and great community relations,

No way does Riley leave OSU for us, hell he wouldn't leave OSU for USC. He's there for the long haul unless the NFL wants to give him another go.

Mack doesn't belong with those other guys. He was pretty good at the college level.
