Stetson 89....Wake Forest 79.

He's going to be feeling the pressure down there quickly if the results don't come. WF fans (the few dozen that exist) don't give a !@#$ about football but they take hoops seriously. They expect their Deacs to be regulars in March Madness and giving the Heels and Devils a run for their money. They've become accustomed to success and fired Gaudio despite their appearance in the big dance last season.

Wow. Wake had 17 turnovers and was outrebounded 45-33.

I bet those WF fans loved it when one of their guys was shooting a 1 and 1 while the rest of his teammates were hanging out at midcourt. Maybe they just don't appreciate "not giving up easy baskets the other way"

Good to see. Did we ever get the buyout he owes us?

Yes he did. Honestly it's really pretty questionable whether or not we broke ground or not by the deadline. We basically had that little groundbreaking ceremony, then didn't do anything until June (months after the deadline) because of hs graduation. Bzdelik could have taken us to court - and had a pretty strong case - but he didn't. I'm not an apologist, just someone who appreciates the fact he left the program better than he found it.

I don't wish bad things on Coach Bzdelik. I'm just glad we upgraded our coaching this offseason.

I can't stand Bzdelic. He is a total loser prick. I hope he goes down in flames at Wake and gets booted out of coaching altogeather. He's a ****ty human being and doesn't deserve the wealth he's accumulated. Go to hell, Jeff. Coaching the "Deamon Deacons" is appropriate for you. Weasel.

Don't hold back man, tell us how you really feel.

When we first hired Bz I was worried he would use our program as a stepping stone. He did, but in a very positive way (whereas I assumed it would be negative at the time). He succeeded in recruiting quite a few good players, he changed the culture of the team and aided in the facilities improvements that were sorely needed. I wish Bz nothing but the best and I think he will be successful at Wake. I hope for his sake they have the patience to wait.

With the above written, I am ecstatic he left and Boyle was hired. So far, it seems like Boyle is the guy to continue to grow this program and take us to the next step. From philosophy of play, attitude and recruiting I feel he is really doing a great job. I hope this continues for Boyle and the program as I truly believe this state would love a good local college basketball program. Since the end of the Ricardo era, this program has grown leaps and bounds. I believe we have the foundation for continued growth.

Go Buffs! Sweep Georgia in 2010!

:wow: Maybe if you just consider the last year of the Patton era (and it seems you might be saying that), after a slew of players graduated. The Ricardo era, despite Patton's shortcomings, saw the Buffs continually competitive. There were four years of very good (although a few had a bad finish) basketball (20 wins, NCAA twice, and a disappointing NIT). Even in the years outside of those we had players who would keep the Buffs competitive and able to beat any team. I remember with Jaquay Walls, we were never out of a game and upset a ranked NBA-talented Cyclone team. And besides this, what other coach was able to get a number one recruit at their position to commit to Colorado over Duke, Kansas, UNC, his father's school (Vandy), etc? What is missed more than anything from the Patton era is that beautiful connection to the fertile recruiting ground in Tennessee-and his ability to get JUCO big men to fill in the gaps. I hope Boyle can really get us some JUCO post help ASAP.

I think Boyle definitely has the program headed in the right direction, but some fans have selective amnesia with the Patton era. Bzdelik had a major issue of attrition, as did Patton in the late nineties (and as Patton is having now at NIU in his third year---the same year he suffered the blows from Fox/Harbert/etc transferring if memory serves). The thing is Bzdelik ran off an entire recruiting class minus one or two and did it openly and purposely. This put a long-term hurt on the program early in the Bz era and his style of basketball is the reason that we have very few post players to this day. Despite this, he brought in both Burks and Higgins-so the cupboard wasn't bare.

I'm excited to see where this team can go, but am afraid it will take a JUCO post player and convincing Burks to stay to get to the Big Dance (next year), especially in a physical conference like the Big 12.

I always thought Patton did an admirable job recruiting. He convinced a lot of good kids to come here without a ton of support from the university. My post was not intended to mock Patton. When Bz took over, Patton's time was clearly up and it was time for new blood.

There is no selective memory here about Patton.

Patton's problem was that he couldn't coach a lick. He could recruit with the best of them, though. We had lots of talent but not many players ever seemed to get any better under his watch.

his offense (if you can call it that) was terrible. 4 guys standing around watching one guy dribble, no player development. Yeah he got some good players here and nobody is saying he wasn't a good/great recruiter, but we just didn't like what happened once they got here.

I completely agree with this (and agree with Daah as well). I had a coach that used to call "black hole" every time a guy held on to the ball too long. When you heard "black hole" it meant pass the freaking ball. Watching Patton's teams I was constantly yelling black hole, black hole! Everyone probably thought I was nuts.

I don't get this either. Patton made the NCAAT twice, the NIT four times, coached our greatest hooper of all time in our best basketball season of this generation.

The only thing Bzz did was recruit Higgins and Burks, with a whole lot of L's to go along with them.

You didn't read the post carefully enough. I posted about where the program is now from the beginning of the Bz era/end of Patton era. I was not commenting on Patton's success or failures. The fact remains that during Bz's tenure money was finally put in the program and Bz did a nice job recruiting at the same time. Hence the foundation for real commitment to basketball was laid.

Patton had success under more difficult circumstances considering he did not have the same financial support/athletic department commitment. No where in that post did I criticize Patton.

Patton had some very good moments at CU. But let's no pretend that the program Bzdelik took over looked anything like what you're describing...

Patton was able to bring in talent, but not do much with it. Frankly, his program was a bit out of control. The lingering APR and scholarship penalty issues that Bz inherited were a lot to overcome.

The strange thing about it is Patton is an honorable guy who did try to hold his players accountable. I think, like with GB, the APR came about at the wrong times in their tenures and they couldn't adjust quickly enough to survive in the environment at CU at the time.

Bz did have to dig us out of a mess and sacrifice some things in recruiting as well as not giving guys any leeway for the minor behavior problems any group of young adults is going to have. Now that that's over, time to win.

not trying to start anything here nor flame. im not that much into roundball but, can anyone tell me about RP's major success that do not include Billups?

Patton = Tharp
Bz = Bohn

Whatever their coaching styles/recruiting abilities, I think much of each coach's tenure can be seen by which AD was in charge. One ignored b-ball, one seems to be more committed to making CU b-ball respectable & making it a program students/fans will want to get behind.
