The wildcat Jefferson run was awesome... wish we'd get to see more of that. And the half back pass with speedy was sweet. I know Keisau has called the plays all season but why are we all of a sudden more creative when Dan is gone, did the Zen Master have authority to over-right Keisau when he didn't like a play that was called from the sidelines?

I guess, but did he not allow Keisau to call those plays, or did Keisau get hit in the head and all of a sudden become an offensive guru?

Maybe Cabral hit him in the head and turned him into an offensive guru. More reason to hire him as permenant coach if we win out

I can't believe how well our defense has been playing the last two games. Maybe Collins really isn't a bad defensive coordinator

Coaches are being allowed to coach IMO....I think Hawkins instructed the coordinators to do things his way while Cabral is letting them do things their way with his input (run the ball!!!)

Probably. Just like the other OC that went to Oregon. All of a sudden he got smarter too after he wasn't coaching for Dan.

Notice how plays get in on time, guys get lined up in the right places and the right guys are in the game. There is enough time to read the defensive set and make adjustments, we don't always seem to be in panic state.

I think that under Hawk there was always confusion about who was responsible or if Hawk would approve what was being called and who was in the game. Now they just seem to be doing what they have planned and practiced, no second guessing or confusion.

As a side effect of this guys have time to process their responsibilties on each play as well reducing mistakes and hesitancy. The line is more effective and as a result both the running game and passing game are much more effective.

In short they look like a football team.

I remember when CU struggled to score more than twenty.

It's fun to be a fan again!

Hawk was coaching stupid.

FIFY :smile2:

I have to think one of the biggest reasons the offense looks so much better is that we're finally running the ball, and sticking with it. It seemed like before, even when we did establish the run, after a while we'd lose interest and start chucking the ball all over the field (see KU). And without the threat of the run, teams just teed off on Cody. Part of the reason he's looked better is more time. It's crucial for him.

Sorta the same on defense. All of a sudden we're getting some pressure on the QB, at least more than we had before. My hunch there is that it isn't so much that Hawk was preventing that from happening before as much as Cabral has demanded it happen now...

and for once. the player is left on the field. seriously. for the past 5 years, anytime anyone had a good play, save the QB, that player was off the field for the next few plays. stewart makes some good moves and runs for 29 yards. off the field. every friggin time. finally, players are staying on the field and being allowed to find their groove.

In the PC Cabral admitted that he didn't really know much about our offense and that he's letting the O coaches coach. He said he provided a frame work for the O coaches (I suspect it was "we need to run the ball") but basically left the rest of it (game planning, play calling, personnel decisions, etc.) up to them. A good leader knows how to provide a vision and then delegate effectively. Cabral is off to a good start.

I think he knows more about the offense than he lets on. I also think that he is the kind of guy who believes that if you give the right people the ability to make decisions and support them along with holding them responsible you get results.

My impression of Cabral is that as long as we are winning he is happy to deflect credit to others. Kind of a strange concept around here based on the last few years were a certain guy wanted to have his finger in everything and take credit for all of it.

He said the same last week. I just think it boils down to the players being way more relaxed. They don't feel like Hawk's career is on their shoulders. Yeah, I think the players liked Hawk and felt like they needed to win for him. I think the same goes for Cody, big time. He looks very good now.
