I have no idea what the future holds for Brian Cabral (or for CU) but I have to say it has been a great pleasure to have him be Colorado's interim head coach for these past few weeks.

A couple of days ago, a reporter asked offensive line coach Denver Johnson if the Buffs had been playing for Colorado or Cabral in their wins against Iowa State and Kansas State. Johnson laughed and answered, "No difference . . . they're one and the same."

When players assembled at noon Monday for a brief but electric team meeting that outlined the week's overall goals, a poignant slogan - familiar to only a few - had been restored in the Dal Ward Athletic Center's auditorium.

"The Pride And Tradition Of The Colorado Buffaloes Will Never Be Entrusted To The Timid Or The Weak."

Before last weekend's win against Kansas State, Cabral went to work to get the bold "Mac-ism" reprinted high above the stage in the auditorium. It is back - and in a spot so prominent the Buffs can't help but notice as they prepare for their final trip to Nebraska before heading next season into the Pac-12 Conference.

I am starting to think we don't have to look far for our next coach. Cabral has won a super bowl, a national title, and has been around winning coaches McCartney and Barnett. He knows what it takes to win at this school. Now recuiting is my only concern, but if he beats Nebraska on Friday, it will be hard for me to say no to him.

The more I hear about BC the more I like.

The dude's soul shines black and gold. He deserves a legitimate interview already, but if he wins at Nub-raska he has to get the job.

I completely agree! No matter what happens Friday, this man deserves a shot. He bleeds Black and Gold!

not this again

I'm sold on Cabral win or lose Friday. Saw both Alfred and Chad Brown saying Cabral is the man, and to ink him. Not surprising since they played for him; but it speaks volumes to me with the amount of former players stepping up for the man.

Nebraska sucks. ISU sucks. KSU sucks. While beating these three teams would be great for the players, Cabral, and the programs at large, it should not automatically make Cabral a lock for the next head coach. We really need a homerun hire and we should not annoint someone based on 3 weeks at the end of an awful season. We shouldn't exclude Cabral either.

You cannot argue with what the change of a single man at the top has done for this program already. Brian is showing the maturity and leadership that has taken this program in a positive direction when it could just have easily gone the other way. Pretty fantastic performance that is very deserving of a legitimate interview and serious consideration for the job.

We already did the "homerun" hire. It gave us the worst 5 year run in Colorado history. Screw that.

Werent you the same person that said we should have hired Bo Pellini? Maybe you should sit this one out.

I think what a lot of people accept the fact that we don't have enough dough or the willingness to shell out enough to get a "home run" hire. Based on the candidates available Cabral looks like the next best thing and he wouldn't come with all of the baggage that a Mac would. I think that vote yesterday to have a coach who "cares about academics" is their way to say they don't want Mac.

Would you guys support hiring a cheerleader for head football coach? I agree he is awesome and great for our program. I am a huge Cabral fan... But not for head coach. I really hope we can keep him when we make our new hire however....

I thought I remember reading something about Mac's sign being covered up just temporarily during renovations? Am I making that up, or is it another lie from Hawkins?

Took it down as the Pride and Tradition was intrusted to the weak and timid.

I mainly want to hire someone outside of the "family" so that we can have a whole new set of recruiting and coaching connections. Someone who can recruit in different parts of the country than we are used to would be a major improvement.

Huh? Has he ever been a Coordinator? Head Coach? No? Then he isnt qualified.

That doesn't matter. My dad, who is a former player who knows Cabral and spent time in the lockeroom last week, sold me on some stuff last week. I was in your corner, but if he beats Nebraska, then I am 100% behind him. He has been around long enough that not beeing a coordinator is no the issue. There are some concerns. 1. How will he recuit and 2. WHat staff will he bring

But being qualified is not as big of an issue as you make it out to be. The dude has been around, he knows, HE KNOWS!!!

these are the two most important things in college football. Since they are both "concerns," I would say he is not qualified.

WTF?? You're joking, right?

Yeah, let's go recruit Wisconsin and Minnesota and Florida. Good idea.

Seriously, is that a joke?
