Minnesota: We have just been told that Brady Hoke, Paul Chryst, Troy Calhoun, and Randy Edsall have all informed Minnesota AD Joel Maturi that they are not interested in the head coaching job at Minnesota.

That site does seem to do a good job of compiling the most credible coaching rumors on a daily basis. For example, no mention of the Nutt-to-Colorado "story".

And McCarney just took the north Texas Job. He could have been a nice fit there.

interesting to see McCarney take the NT job. One of the things that allowed him to build his 6-7 wins a year program at ISU was recruiting the "number 2's" well in Texas...before KU (Mangino) and Missouri had a real presence.

I wonder if the whole TCU announcement has these guys looking at the options that may open up for them. Hoke may stay at SDSU because of the retention package supposedly in the works but I am sure Calhoun will get other looks than CU and MN now as the MWC implodes. He may be focusing on CU or he may feel that there will be a better options. I am sure he will be on more lists as a potential candidate now that the is so much uncertainty with the MWC.

Potential candidate for what schools, exactly?

Other than Miami, Colorado, and Minnesota - what other jobs are available?

I can't picture Calhoun in Miami. Talk about a fish out of water.

Wonder why Paul Chryst wouldn't be interested. Seems like an ideal job for him.

He'd be really good at Vanderbilt. But if he turned down UT last year, it's hard to imagine him accepting Vandy this year.

i don't see him for Indiana.

Meh. Vanderbilt is where coaches go to die, not thrive.

They've had TWO winning seasons in 30 years.

We will see what opens up. The carosel is just getting started and some dominos will still fall. He may want to stay at AF as well, he did turn down Tenn last year.

I think people are realizing that Minny is just a ****ty job. You are not going there to win. It's merely a stepping stone. Seriously, UMinn hasn't won a conference title in over 40+ years. Playing Nebraska every year will only make that job tougher.

I saw on Saturday that after Ohio State and Michigan, Minnesota has the most B10 championships. What does that say about Illinois?

Leaving the door open for...Al Golden?

Fulmer's name is still out there too for Minny fans, but I'm sure they would rather have Golden.

While it sucked to stick with Hawkins for another season, the coaching carousel is pretty mediocre in terms of big-time jobs: us, Miami and Minn, so hopefully that helps Bohn out some.

Hire Dan Mullen!

Yeah, Minny was one of the first big state-school powers after the era of Ivy League/Military schools. Six national titles (1934-60) and 18 conference crowns, all between 1900-67).

Golden is holding out for the PSU job...

So are a handful of other coaches: Mullen, Schiano, Golden. Penn State will have their choice, but Golden's smart enough not to put his eggs into one basket. Minnesota isn't a great job, but it is a step up from Temple obviously. Tough place to win, but it has been done before. Even though he has mostly east coast ties, I'd taken Golden in a heart beat.

urbana is sort of right and sort of wrong. minny is not the easiest place to win, but how could it have been the past 30~ years playing in the metrodome. that place was like playing in a half full mosoleum. it has been really tough.

however, they have brand new digs, revived donor support and are located in a major city that can appeal to recruits. don't forget brewster was killing it a couple years in texas and florida of all places. its not the best job obviously, but it doesn't have to be a doormat like urbana suggests. i hope they get a good guy in there.

I could see Calhoun looking at:

Stanford - If Harbaugh takes the Michigan job
UCLA - Whenever Slick Rick wears out his welcome
North Carolina - If Butch Davis gets caught up in the recruiting scandals
Dallas Cowboys - If they don't offer Garrett or another "big-time" coach
Houston Texans - If Kubiak is canned

Minny should go after Jerry Kill at Northern Illinois. His resume is very impressive, success at every level. He knows the region that Minny needs to concentrate their recruiting on and I could see him being a "Joe Tiller" type coach for Minny like Purdue had. Not a challenge to the "big boys": Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, and Nebraska; but in the mix with Michigan State, Iowa, and Wisconsin. Plus he would be a lot cheaper than some of the other guys on their list.

Great point. Kill is killing it. As such, he's on the radar of multiple Big Ten schools. I wouldn't be surprised to see him get the Indiana job. Like Calhoun, he is an X's and O's guy with unknown recruiting ability since he's been on smaller stages. I question his health though since he missed a game or two earlier this year because of heart/chest issues. Doesn't surprise me since he isn't a model of physical fitness... in fact, he kind of even looks like Joe Tiller or Danny Hope.
