CU Football problem: We can't get out of our own way

Coach Mac has killed any and all the little momentum that Embree might have got starting off as our new Head Coach and replaced it with negativity. Now all people are talking about is why Mac said what he did about the getting a black man to become the coach. While you can put me on record for being in the EB camp, I will still support Embree but man I feel bad for the guy because now he has this cloud hanging over what should have been a joyous occasion for him. Now you have people questioning why he was chosen over EB and I guarantee you some jack ass in the denver/boulder media will bring up the Mac quote to him... I'm so disappointed in Mac right now. Anytime our program starts to gain some steam we seem to do something to screw it up.

It was an unfortunate statement, probably taken out of context. I hope it was. I'll give Mac the benefit of the doubt.

Problem is whether it was taken out of context or not doesn't matter in today's media. All people will remember is the initial statement.

You really think people wouldn't be criticizing this if Mac didn't say something? Come on. Bieniemy was always the top CU family guy. Embree wasn't even mentioned until last week as a candidate.

Please! This is America. Nobody is going to remember any of this a week from now.

I never said that they wouldn't be criticizing the hire but the Mac statement on race plus the fact that he leaked the story before the AD released it puts an increased amount of negativity around the hire which we don't need.

Didn't Mac want Simmons way back when instead we got Slick?

To be fair he also suggested Elliot Uzelac and Hankwitz too who were on the staff.

Albino/Tharp made the right move. Slick Rick was the best coach of those candidates.

I would think Mac was doing Bohn, whoever, a favor by being the one who broke the news and giving his nod of approval. I would also assume that he had the consent of those making the decision. I read this as Mac trying to drum up some enthusiasm and lend credibility to what was sure to bee seen as a headscratcher of a hire across the country. Might have fumbled it a little bit, but I'm sure that wasn't his intent.

Embo was on Macs staff.
