Way too early Pac-12 prediction for the Buffs

NashBuff

CSU Knob-Slobberer
On the boards, it is never too early to make predictions for the upcoming season. I will go with what I believe could be a realistic record:

@Hawaii (close one) W
Cal W (assuming we play them and we will win that one...they suck on the road and they have to break in a new starting QB)
Colorado State W
@Ohio State L
Washington State W
@Stanford L
@Washington W (no Locker for the Huskies but they have a good RB..will be tough)
Oregon L (they have built a lot of depth)
@ ASU L (they COULD be the team to beat in the P12 South)
USC W (depth could be an issue for USC at this point in the season)
Arizona W (could be a close one)
@ UCLA W
@ Utah W (they lose a TON of good players plus Wynn will miss spring practice due to shoulder surgery and they have no depth at QB after this season...they will be one hit away from disaster next season)

This would mean we have a 8-4 record. There are a lot of unknowns which could mean CU has a 4-8 season instead.

When is spring ball going occur?

@Hawaii (close one) W
Cal L (But we'll play some horrible team, not cal, so W)
Colorado State W
@Ohio State L
Washington State W
@Stanford L
@Washington W
Oregon L
@ ASU L
USC L
Arizona L
@ UCLA L
@ Utah L

Too early for this but, 5 - 8.

We should have been an 8 win team this year with a different coach. We return a bunch of skill position players. There will be some bumps next year, but I say 6 or 7 wins next year. And we will be very competitive in the losses. We are gonna see a different team!

Guys, we will have one of the best WR's in the country and one of the best RB's in the Pac-12.

I would LOVE to see us win that Ohio State game, but they have way too much returning talent. They have also only lost 4 games at home in the past 6 seasons, and we have only won 4 road games during the same stretch. Would love to see it though.

Wont happen, but I can see us winning a big conference game or two like USC, Utah, Oregon or Arizona.

Hawaii ended up 10-3. #24 in the AP poll and BCS. Knowing nothing about what they return, and conceding SOS....still not a gimme on the road.

I think we win 6 next year.

Let's not forget Deehan and Thornton getting some great coaching from the Embree brothers at the TE position plus four out of five OL starters coming back. If we can find some starting CBs and at least one good starting LB, the Buffs should have a winning season next season. The cupboard isn't bare for Embree like it was for Hawkins.

ASU has showed glimpses of greatness this season but finished 6-6.
UA was good earlier this season and yet finished 7-5 this year.
USC's depth problems will rear its ugly head later in the season.
With thousands of screaming CU fans at the Rose Bowl, I like CU's chances at UCLA.
Utah is losing quite a few key players. They have to replace their top two RBs and find a backup QB. Wynn will miss spring practice due to shoulder surgery.
We should be happy we don't face Oregon State next season...they should bounce back next season.
The Ducks will remain strong and have the depth to overcome the altitude in Boulder.
The Huskies have to replace Locker.
Paul Wulff will be under a WIN OR ELSE manadate at WSU.
Cal needs a new QB and the heat is on Tedford.

I think we would be doing JE a serious disservice if we don't expect a winning season next season. Seven wins or BUST!

There are going to be some bumps in the road. The team has quite a few starters and upperclassmen returning, but they will all be learning new O and D schemes, techniques, etc.

We will have the best returning Pac-12 South RB but the best Pac-12 RB? UO's James, OSU's Rodgers, Cal's Vareen, and UW's Polk will have something to say about that. We might face three of them and if we meet OSU in the P12 CCG, we will face Rodgers as well. The Pac-12 will have a number of good RBs.

Not the best, one of the best. And yes, a 1300 yard back on a losing team thats chasing CU's all time rushing record deserves mention with those backs.

HAHHAHAHa... you can't be serious!

Why not? Do you realize what Richardson and Speedy have done? Dead serios. Richardson will be a Biletnikof candidate and Speedy could become CU's all time leading rusher. I thnk it's a joke if you think they aren't among the best.

That with four of five starting OLs returning. Speedy should get at least 1500 yards next season. Our TEs should be improved with the upgrade in coaching for them and Deehan has improved near the end of the season. IMO, what needs to be done is that Hansen is more willing to throw deep and a clutch pass catching WR emerges to replace McKnight.

I sincerely believe that we could have a good shot at the Pac-12 South title but I haven't broken down the other Pac-12 teams.

Playing 13 games definitely sucks. To reach a bowl, we must now win 7 games instead of 6. That could be all the difference in the world for us.

All that said, we have a realistic shot of starting out 4-1. Me likey.

Those are some good backs, no doubt. But aside from James, Speedy had a better year than the rest of them. True story.

I don't mean to diminish Speedy's accomplishments but I just don't really see him as a truly elite, 1st round draft pick type of guy. That's what a top BCS school RB is to me. Stats are great, but Cody is the alltime leading passer too, right? Was he one of the best QBs in the big 12?

And Richardson has shown some great promise, but one of the best receivers in the country? Not yet, my friend.

This is a really big deal, we have some gigantic cleats to fill to replace Scotty. I think every clutch 3rd down conversion (granted there weren't many) we had under Hawk, Scotty was the receiver.

Next year's schedule is a killer. Travel to Hawaii out of conference. No bye weeks. If we start off with 3 wins, then I like our chances to win 7 and go to a bowl. If we step on our dick in Honolulu or (please God, no) Denver, then I don't see a winning season.

I will be working on the Pac-12 stats stuff for awhile...I'll be sure to post that stuff as soon as possible.

Go Buffs!

I'm thinking there will be a good contingent of Buff fans there to cheer them on & get them on track (I'll be there + 12)....I also would bet that Embree/EB put a giant emphasis on killing the BS road loss streak on that first game

@Hawaii W (UH loses a ton of 2 deep to graduation on both sides of ball, we repeat recipe from this year and pound out a win)
Cupcake W (Embree does NOT repeat Hawk history and destroys some cupcake)
Colorado State W
@Ohio State L
Washington State W
@Stanford L
@Washington W (no Locker and really an underachieving team)
Oregon L (no chance)
@ ASU L (they should be improved)
USC W (depth could be an issue for USC at this point in the season, and playing at altitude in November)
Arizona W (again playing at altitude in butt cold November)
@ UCLA W
@ Utah L (they are consistently good and will be jacked up at home)

I think opposing Pac 12 teams are going to learn the hard way that Colorado has the best natural home field in the conference at the highest elevation and the south teams coming in here in Oct/Nov are not going to like the cold.

I think we squeak into a bowl game at 7-6.

@Hawaii W Tough but winnable
Cupcake W We see Portland St or some other team we should beat
Colorado State W Embo pounds the Ewes
@Ohio State L Nuff said here - take the money and get it over with
Washington State W They are bad and not getting better
@Stanford L Tough first roady in the Pac
@Washington W May be our best chance for a PAC 12 road win
Oregon L Just do not see us being able to pull it out
@ ASU L They will be better next year
USC L We will play them tough but do not see a W
Arizona L We will see. I really see this as a toss up
@ UCLA W If we do not win at UW, we could get the first Pac 12 road win here
@ Utah L First rival game on away from home

I see 6 wins. This is going to be a project to get us back to winning ways and I do not see us getting to a bowl next year. The 5 home games is a killer next year. We lose around 30 seniors at the end of 2011 so depth will be an issue the following season. It may be Embos third year before we go bowling.

Speedy is not an elite 1st round back. He will be among the top in the conference though. He would have been the 2nd best back in the Pac this year.

And as for Richardson. He was a true freshman coming late into the mix in fall camp. He wasn't even here when Fall camp started. Yet he had the best year ever by a freshman WR at CU. The guy makes big plays and showed no signs of being a freshman the second half of the season. He will only get better and yes, he will be among the best in the country, he is right now IMO. We haven't seen WR's here like him since Westbrook and Johnson.

Richardson needs to prove it over more than half a season before he is amongst the nation's elite. I'm not sure he will even be the best sophomore WR in the Pac-10, let alone one of the best in the country. He has all the potential in the world, but we might want to tap the brakes a bit.

To each their own, I'm keeping on the accelerator. I see something special in this kid. He is the real deal. Something we have not seen in a long time!
