Meanwhile, in about an hour I'll have news about a top flight TX prep RB that wants to go to CU, but hasn't heard much from Buffs.

This is what he said on Twitter.

Recruiting geeks? Who is he talking about?

Malcolm Brown from San Antonio, and currently the boon of the UT recruiting class? One can dream...

Yeah - 'top-flight' is a bit of a relative term around here.

Recruits from TX who are running backs and show interest in CU (or did at one time):

33 3 star Cam McDaniel
(Coppell HS)
Coppell, TX 5-10/190/4.51 None Yes Committed to Notre Dame

35 3 star Deandre Washington
(Marshall HS)
Missouri City, TX 5-8.5/175 None Yes Committed to Texas Tech

68 3 star Kenny Farrow
(Bell HS)
Hurst, TX 5-10/190 Verbal Yes Committed to Colorado

97 3 star Anthony Webb
(La Porte HS)
La Porte, TX 5-9.5/170 None No Committed to Houston

132 2 star Damien Willis

Maybe steal a speedster from Cal?

Check out the video. This is big boy Texas football he's doing this against. And he obviously likes the Pac and wants to go out of state.

More likely... Jarrell Oliver, a Buffs legacy we should steal from Utah.

Check out post #20 in this thread. http://www.allbuffs.com/showthread.php/48099-2011-PAC-12-amp-Colorado-Preps-Recruiting-Tracker

Jarrell's uncle, O.C., made the key play when we finally broke through against Nebraska. That was Embree's team.

And Jarrell can play. Rivals 3*, graded just below 4*, and the #33 RB in the nation.

Alfred Williams said at the Buff Luncheon for the 1990 reunion that watching O.C. play on the recruiting video is what made him want to come to Boulder.

So it's Dustin Garrison that Dempsey was talking about... yeah.

Not a lot known about him.

Unrated on Scout and not in the Rivals or ESPN databases.

Another Speedy? Watch the film and give your thoughts.

how does that qualify as top flight

Supposedly he's getting a lot of interest from some Pac-12 schools. And he does play big boy football for one of the top teams in Texas, maybe the nation. But it's a stretch. Kind of like it's a stretch to call most of the Denver Post's sports writers "journalists".

I really liked how he follows his blocks, especially downfield. 1:45 and 2:22 and 2:34 to name a few. Didn't watch the entire thing. He seems to be pretty good, but I don't know much about recruiting videos to know if he'll project to the DI level.

takes hits better than speedy, stronger. Not as jittery at all, but makes nice cuts. speedys highlight reel was better tho.

This is the one I was talking about in the "first recruit" thread. Sounds like "top flight" is a stretch. But who knows?

He looks solid. Very Speedy like from a video i found on youtube. I'm sorta hoping with EB and Embo back that we move towards bigger backs. I respect Speedy tremendously but don't care for the 5'7" HB's, personally.

Jens, thank you for finding this one and creating the profile.

I just spent a few minutes watching the video. This kid can play.

Garrison led his Pearland team to an upset of Euless Trinity (was #1 nationally) and the Texas state 5A championship. Below is the full highlight video from his senior year. As reported by the Denver Post, he would love to be a Buff.

Went to CU from 2000-2004 and have been a regular reader of this board for quite some time, but after watching video on this kid and then reading about him, I had to register and say something. How can you not love this kid? Fast as hell, extremely quick cuts, doesn't shy away from contact (in fact, seems to embrace it), runs up the middle and then cuts out, has GREAT character, is a winner (Texas state champion!), and wants to be a Buff???

What's not to love? His size? So what, if anyone can take a chance on a player who may prove to be special, it's a team with four commitments in january.

EB was a pretty good rb at 5-7.

It blows my mind he has 0 offers. Not even Texas State, North Texas, UTEP. All Texas school are well aware of him. There's lots of small guys that play cfb. Just doesn't make sense. Must be something unrelated to football.

Great first post. You are exactly correct. His film looks better to me than Stewart's did against tougher competition. In that regard we could give this kid a chance to come in, be a good football player for us and excel at any number of positions. He could be a Glyn Milburn type. Allot 10-15 touches a game for him. Assign him to the PR/KR teams as we still need help on those, give him some 3rd down duty and take some handoffs while catching some passes out of the backfield in the pro-set.

I saw a few plays from this kid where he motioned out of the backfield and looked real nice catching passes.

If we only take 12-15 kids this year, I hope they love football, love their opportunity, and are going to go 110MPH for that chance. This kid will do that.

Glad you signed up.

Good points. It has to be a size thing, because there's no way someone can lead a team to the Texas 5A championship and not have every program that recruits Texas aware of him.

If we have room and want to take a risk on a guy this cycle, I'd love to see us sign Garrison. Part of what we need to do is change the culture in the locker room to a bunch of guys who expect to win and will not tolerate losing. And it's easier to recruit winners than to create them.
