Anyone know why David Gibbs is not the DC?

He's obviously an alum and is currently an NFL secondary coach
and has spent several years as a college DC at Minnesota and Auburn.
He and Embree played at CU together and were on the same coaching
staff in Kansas City so there is familiarity. Seems like he would be a much
better fit then Greg Brown and yet I never even heard his name come
up as a cannidate. Whats up with that?

Does he even want the job?

I would think so. Salary would probably be about the same as what he's making now. As an alum there is some added incentive to take the job plus he's going to be unemployed in about a month when Kubiak gets fired. Just thought it was strange that he was never even mentioned as a possibility.

With Brown comes Tuiasasopo, and a recruiting edge on the west coast. When was the last time David Gibbs recruited anybody?

Is he the DC at the Texans? Cause if so, that's why. The Texans have a terrible D. And Brown knows the PAC-10 offenses which is another plus.

1. I wasn't aware the not being mentioned as a possibility on an interweb forum meant that Embree didn't consider him.

2. Out of curiosity, why do you think Gibbs would be a better DC in Embree's system than would Brown?

As you say, Gibbs and Embree are familiar with each other. This would lead me to a few conclusions. A) Embree asked Gibbs if he was interested and Gibbs wasn't, probably because he wants to stay in the league. B) Embree thinks Brown is the better fit for his staff. C) Gibbs was interested, but Embree feels that there isn't a big enough difference between Gibbs or Brown to justify a possible salary difference.

There's no big conspiracy to this coaching search. Just like every HC and even regular old business people, Embree is hiring coaches he is familiar with, he works well with, and is confident that can do the job.

I mentioned Gibbs a few times. Another random interwebz poster informed me that Gibbs does not like recruiting and prefers the NFL.

Thats what I remember hearing a few years ago. He doesn't like recruiting.
