Koa Ka'ai was supposed to be camping with CU this past weekend.

Rivals had a brief update on Koa's trip to the mainland. He visited Colorado along with Wyoming, Cal and Stanford.

Here's part of what he had to say:

"I guess that every recruit goes into their fun room and it's really cool. The campus is nice, the weather is really cool, and the city is not too crowded. I liked coach (Romeo) Bandison, their defensive line coach. Actually, their whole staff is really cool."

Looks like we've got a shot here. Seems like Cal is our main competition among the schools that have offered and that we need to hope that neither Nebraska nor USC offer.

We made his top six along with Arizona, Nebraska, Oregon, Stanford, and USC. He has already taken official visits to Nebraska and Oregon. This is going to be a tough pull with the uncertain coaching situation, but he would be a very good get on the DL.

Big news that we're still in it on this one. Let's hope he waits a long time to commit. Being in the Pac-12 should help us. Keeping Cabral would help us more. Hiring a DL coach who has actually put a DL in the NFL would help a lot too.

btw, Koa Ka'ai has been re-evaluated and his ratings are blowing up. Here's where he was:

Rivals rating: NR weakside DE
Scout rating: 2*; unranked DE
ESPN rating: NR DE

Here's his new profile:

Rivals: 3*-5.6rr; unranked DE
Scout: 4*; #29 DE
ESPN: 3*-79 grade; #30 DE

He has also added a ton of offers. Everyone should be pretty impressed with CU making his top 6. This would be big for us if we could close.

we are still in on him?!?!?!

Yes. We made his top 6. Schools like Oklahoma, Washington, Texas Tech and Oregon State did not.

Colorado is an absolute gold mine if we can get a good coach and recruiter in here.

Amazed we've got a shot, hope he doesn't make any decision until after the season is over (and we've hopefully got a new HC)

The nice thing about the kids from Hawaii is they tend to take more visits after the season, so it probably will be a while until he makes a decision. The next DL coach needs to be an upgrade as a coach and as a recruiter if we want to get kids like Lake more often.

Damn get this guy in the weight room and you have a straight beast in terms of size. Hope we land this guy and with Cabral I think we have a good chance.

Still has only taken official visits to Oregon and Nebraska. We are in his top six, as is Arizona. If Tuiasosopo ends up being the new DL coach and Cabral sticks around, we might have a good shot here.

Updated his photo from the old shot that made Koa look like a little kid.

I'm really hoping that we can sign him. This would be a great DL commitment for us.

A bit slow for a top flight DE, but damn, I love the energy Hawaiian kids bring, and Kam is a solid program with pretty decent S&C training for a highschool, so he should come ready to contribute on some level even though he is a bit light at 235 for a 4/3 DE and a bit slow for a 3/4 OLB. And I LOVE his offer list. I can't believe how rare that was for a while. I forget who, but someone mentioned that the top guy in our class last year had 7 other offers.

If we get him, it would be damn impressive. New staff, like with a lot of prospects, is starting from far behind. And he likes red. Ugh.

Not as far behind in this case. We have always been amongst his favorites and so has Arizona.

EDIT: I know he likes NU, but this one will go down to the wire.

We got an official for the 22nd, I think. I'll update visitor list in a little while.
