“If we do a channel, you’ll see us have more premium content on it than the Big Ten has,” Scott said, referring to high-profile games. “If we do it, we’re going to do it in a big way. We’ll have a serious commitment to the production values and the whole lifestyle of the West Coast.”

Scott said the programming schedule would be filled out through 2,700 live events from the conference. Schools would be expected to contribute all of their third-tier TV rights, the ones not picked up by the conference’s broadcast and cable partners. That includes any games not picked up by those main network partners.

would love to never have to worry about getting a CU bball or football game on TV again.

Thank god. Living in NE had me worried that i wasn't gonna be able to see the buffs. Was not looking forward to becoming 'big ten country'...**** that!

Thank you Larry Scott! - And of course the other TV execs will say negative things becasue they'd rather have the rights to all of the content and not have to share with a PAC-12 channel.

Good move. Now, Mr. Scott, don't make the mistake that the Big Ten did -- get East Coast Comcast on your side so they don't black you out (like they did the first year) as well as the cantankerous NYC cable providers who still haven't signed on with the Big Ten. The Pac-12 desperately needs eastern TV exposure. Among other things, high school players like Elijah Shumate -- who'll be at our Spring Game -- need to know they can be seen by their families. And there's donor money to be reaped by getting TV exposure.

Sweet. This means that CU soccer games and ski competitions will be televised.

In all seriousness, this is fantastic. Great move. Scott really has his act together. I get the feeling that he's already worked out his next 3-4 moves, and what we're seeing now is stuff he planned over a year ago.

Obviously this would have to be included by DISH and Direct TV correct? Likely part of a sports pack?

I get the Big 10 Network with Comcast. Its $10 more per month but that includes all the sports channels golf, nfl, etc.

I'm very impressed with Larry Scott and would be thrilled with a Pac 12 tv network. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if some of this was a possible negotiating ploy to get ESPN (or similar) to pony up huge cash to get the contract instead of letting the P12 get their on TV network with full rights.

you'll have to pay extra but it should be.

But with DirecTV if you have the sports pak, then you'd also get the Pac network, right? Or are you saying there'd be another fee in addition to the $12.99 for the sports pak? The Big 10 network channels are included as part of the sports pak, so I'm guessing (hoping) that the Pac network would be the same way.

that said... people with comcast get the mtn free... maybe since we are in the region we get it free

I'm almost positive it's because you live in MWC territory. But outside the region, the only place The Mtn is available is on DTV, cable outlets outside the conference footprint don't even carry it.

I can't imagine it not just being part of the sports pack, one fee for all of it. They will probably raise the price of the subscription a couple bucks. I hope they get direct and dish both on board so we don't have another versus conundrum leaving people panicked over whether or not to switch providers right before season starts.

The BigTen Network is not part of the DirecTV Sports Pack; it is included in one of the base packages and above. I have the sports package but do not have the Big Ten Network.

OK, I just looked and I see it's part of the Choice package, which is the 2nd one up from their very basic package. This must be the one I have because not only do I get the Big Ten network, I also get ESPNU and ESPNews, which are also part of this package. Their basic package (Select) doesn't include these channels.

thats was my point... since most of us are in the footprint it should be free... noone gives a **** about you ****ing hillbillies out east:smile2:

and the whole lifestyle of the West Coast

CU's ski program stands to gain some great exposure during the season if the Pac-12 makes good on these types of promises.

California, the NW, and CU-Utah markets would all draw great ratings, I would think, for the winter sports; especially based on the solid performance of "X-games" on ESPN.

Football in the fall, SoCal and AZ baseball in the spring, Hoops and skiing in the winter. Sounds like a great overall package for a network to garner solid ratings.

Now if only NCAA would sanction MMA it would be perfect!

We probably get the MTN on Comcast as part of the basic package because they probably have to pay Comcast to carry the channel.

As I recall there was a semi protracted battle about that between Dtv and Big10 network. Dtv wanted them included in a sports pack and B10 net wanted to be a part of a standard package so that more eye balls had access to the channel.
