New Mexico- Las Vegas Tourney

RK

UBL
Getting this win would be HUGE. I think we can pull it off if Cory, Alec, Levi and the boys realize that all rims are the same size and we can shoot somewhat decently. I think Levi needs to start. He plays within the offense and literally never misses, its awesome.
What do you guys think?
GO BUFFS

I can't wait to see.

If we beat New Mexico, it's a major step forward for the program.

Not that it really matters - but since these last two games have technically been part of the LV tourney, New Mexico played Longwood and The Citadel just like we did. In both games, our margin of victory was higher. If we can share the ball offensively like we have the last four or five games, we stand a good chance. In games where we place four or more scores in double digits, we are 7-0. Transition defense is a must as New Mexico LOVES to get it out on the break.

You guys have had really good guard play, but the Depth of the Lobos could be your downfall. ESPECIALLY inside. We have Drew Gordon who started for UCLA last year before transferring to UNM, Cameron Bairstow from Australia, AJ Hardeman, Alex Kirk a 6'11" top 100 recruit, and Emmanuel Negedu from Tennesse. At guard we have really long defensive minded players, Phillip Macdonald who chose UNM over Kansas, Dairese Gary aka Little Bus, the strongest point guard ever to be a Lobo, Kendall Williams, who will win MWC freshman of the year this year, he is so smooth and is shooting 61.5% from 3 this year. coming off the bench we have Chad Adams, great defensively and has been getting the offensive production these last few games, but you guys know the opponents lol. then Jamal Fenton, who is so fast if you blink he is at the basket, and finally Curtis Dennis, who hasnt played a lot the last couple games, but can be a lights out 3 ball shooter when he is on the floor, we sub a ton but usually work a half court offense, but if we get a quick steal or long rebound, your defenders better get back fast or look for a monster dunk. This is the tallest, most athletic team the Lobos have ver had, I look forward to the CU vs. UNM game in Vegas! It should be a battle!

how did Drew Gordon start for UCLA last year and not have to sit out a year before playing for you guys?

He sat out a year. He transferred between semesters and left the UCLA team earlier than that. I don't think he was eligible for the first month of the Lobos' season.

We need to shoot well, hold our own on the glass, and win the turnover battle. If we do that, we've got a decent shot. New Mexico is the favorite to win this tourney, though.

Ya Cal beat us pretty bad, but it was just like our beating of them last year, we beat them bad in albuquerque last year, and they were missing 2 of thier 5 starters, they beat us bad this year in California, while we were missing 2 of our 5 starting players (gordon and Macdonald). But the team is really playing well now. The Lobo gameplan will be to wear you guys down and then pull away in the 2nd half, i hope it works lol we have the size and athletic advantage for sure, but you guys score a lot of points with good guard play. Who are your inside players?? and do you think they can stop the lobos inside game??

Well our starting four and five are Marcus Relphorde and Austin Dufault, respectively. Relphorde has more of a guard's skill set and Dufault is not a great post defender. You should basically be able to do what you want inside. However, our backcourt is one of the best in the nation, if you ask me. I think this should be a close game.

Our backcourt is young but very solid. Kendall williams, Phillip Macdonald, and Dairese Gary play amazing perimeter defense, and thats what we will need to stop your guards, here is a video showing the athleticism of drew gordon and phillip macdonald, it was gordons first gamee, but Pmac does this kinda stuff 4 or 5 times a game, he misses a dunk at the end of the vid, if that thing would have went in the roof woulda blown off the pit. haha
