Walt Harris won't join Jon Embree's CU Buffs staff

Harris wanted a multi-year deal and it wasn't going to work out. We're likely to hire an NFL QB Coach in January.

Also, Jeff "Mad Dog" Madden will not be returning as our Strength & Conditioning Coach. Here, too, it wouldn't surprise me if we ended up with an NFL S&C Coach.

too bad on harris. what a track record. excited to see what the NFL pipeline brings. Good to have that on staff (if they recruit). Someone on another board mentioned the vikes QB coach. 20+ years of college exp... + a connection to mcnabb (who embree worked with some this year)....

more than an NFL QB coach...I want an NFL S&C Coach...this would be huge for us if Embree can lure a guy here. Anyone's better than Pitt, but if we could get someone that has worked his way up to the pros already, I'd be happy.

I was never that high on Walt Harris joining the staff, so this is fine by me. We do need another offensive mind though - I worry about EB not having enough offensive minds to help him gameplan.

Because there will probably be a lockout next year.

So we think a 1-year QB coach in a one-n-done deal is a good situation? Am I the only one starting to question how realistic JE is being?

I am worried we won't fill the class and we won't fill the spots on the staff with what everyone is hoping.

And please don't tell me he will stockpile 'ships for next year. We are already at the 25 limit and we haven't started to see the fallout that is always inevitable.

Sure hope I'm worrying about nothing.

I'm back to being cautious again with embree, it sounded great but so far, strange ....

Yeah - Hope we can pull it together and salvage this class. Really sucks that we retained Hawk for that extra year, as it hasn't helped our reputation, and it led to basically a lame-duck recruiting session.

I know that it's a late start and everyone was being optimistic, but losing Bergland and Adonis-Moore in one day looks bad.

The coaching staff is long on recruiting skill and short on coaching experience, so we can't be getting are arses kicked there. Still time to pull out some plums but I really don't get the Donnie Duncan deal (Maybe there were other circumstances).

I hear where you're coming from, but I am going to take a bit of a wait and see approach. Things don't look good, but this staff isn't fully in place. Let's see what visits we can get after the dead period, and see what impact the fully named staff might have on these guys. I have to believe that the coaching staff has something going on here... just hope it works out.

If you weren't worrying, we'd have to check to be sure that you're still breathing. :smile2:

It's definitely hard as a Buff fan, after what we've been through, to confidently sit back and trust that our coaching staff knows what it's doing. Embree does have a clear vision for the program, though. We'll know a lot over the next 40 days in regard to whether he'll be able to execute it quickly.

We could get some guys to enroll next year early and they would count on this years recruiting class.

Will wait and see but this staff could use some good news pretty soon. It may be tough now that we are in the dead period so it may be quite unitl after Jan 3.

All this worry over Walt Harris? He was the worst coach in the history of Stanford football. He lost to a 1-AA team in the first game of the new stadium, then went 1-11 the year before Harbaugh. Walt Harris is crap.

With attrition, you will be able to get all the guys in early next year that you can find that are eligible. You still won't be able to use all the scholarships you have next year and will be pushign to 2013...
