I hope our new O is like Stanford's pro-style O.

That was a thing of beauty to watch tonight. The power run set up the pass with some hard core play action and bootlegs.

I counted 1 screen pass to a wideout and no dump outs out of the backfield like we see all day with that stupid spread offense. Pretty much everything was down the field.

It really was a thing of beauty!

Now I hope Elway gets Harbaugh on the next Gulfstream into Centennial!

Agreed. I'll take seeing it with the Broncos and Stanford coming down a notch as their coach goes to Denver as consolation.

I think three or four of their O-linemen were 5th year seniors, so they have had the benifit of playing together for a long time. I really doubt that line would be able to repeat the same kind of success next year.

I don't care what anybody says, that Stanford offense was a thing of beauty. Pure football wonderfulness. Ram it down your throat, followed up by sick play action to wide open receivers who got behind the safeties who were more concerned about stopping the run than preventing the pass. That's football. I loved every second of it.

And I hope Luck, Harbaugh, that sick LB, and their entire offensive line are all gone next year.

Agreed, it was nice and refreshing to see a mostly traditional offense with 2 backs being used much of the night instead of all these spread, dink-and-dunk offenses that you see all over the college game these days.

Stanford also employs some incredibly detailed and downright strange motion packages. They got VTech out of position a lot just by moving their backs and receivers around a lot. Man, that was great to see.

so after watching Luck last night what does everyone think? I am starting to think he is completely over-hyped because he had all day to throw and often his receivers/tight ends were wide open. I was hoping to see how he would play under duress.

He hit some unbelievable passes in traffic, too. The kid has an arm and can move around a little. He's the real deal.

Screen passes are effective and a necessary part of the game. Just because spread teams overuse them doesn't mean they don't have their place. If the OL can't block and the DL and LBs are putting heavy pressure on the QB then you need to run plays like this that over pursue the QB. You effectively have to make them account for such things. They didn't have to run any of those plays because the OL and RBs were picking up the blitzes and any pass rush very effectively.

At the end of the game when they slo-moed one of Luck's TD passes, wow, that was incredible. You can do a lot of the things Stanford did last night when you have a talent like Luck. Crisp passes downfield that weren't rainbows and didn't take forever to get to his guy. He scans the field very effectively and has great mechanics (I LOVED his high release). It certainly helps that he never really felt any pressure all night. His footwork and his ball control in the play action fooled the camera man even a few times. The only other college QB that I've thought was this good (during the time I've watched CFB) is Matt Ryan. The guy has all of the makings to be a top NFL QB within 3-5 years, that is unless he goes to Carolina and their horrible OL.

Hmm, over-hyped? The reason why Stanford crushed VT was because of Luck, the game is a testament to his greatness.

Stanford's defense was pretty good, too. Relentless. Even when the VT QB would make a play, which he did quite often, Stanford just kept coming at him. By the end of the game, he was a beaten man.

Another thing. Stanford has 350 plays in their arsenal. Are you crazy?!? That's insane. I would say that's unheard of in college ball. Most teams in CFB don't run a true pro-style offense--only something that mimics it--because it requires a lot of time and dedication to do it the right way. Bill Walsh's playbook was notorious for being insanely large. You can and should do that in the pros. Teaching that to 18-22 year olds is a different matter. IMO, that's why Harbaugh is the best coach right now in CFB, bar none.

It was apparent to me that the discipline on the team was very high. People knew what they were supposed to do on every play called. They were students of the game.

Oh, and it doesn't hurt to have 3 super seniors on the your offensive line. It'd be nice to see how Harbaugh would do without those guys and without Luck next year, but I don't see him staying. His status has peaked and it's time to bolt (look at someone like Schiano at Rutgers who isn't as good, but should have gone).

I would say it was because of the o-line. The running game had huge holes and Luck had all day to throw.

He may not have dazzling athleticism, and certainly playing behind a great o-line doesn't hurt, but his mechanics, accuracy and poise were all impressive. He'll do just fine at the next level, he's far from completely overhyped.

I'm not saying he is total junk, but he didn't look like the greatest thing coming out of college the past 30 years, which is how he is being billed right now. His passes are very crisp and on target, but I didn't see him have to go to his 3rd or 4th option last night. Now he might be a genius at reading defense, I'm just saying I didn't see it happen last night because his primary guy was open most times.

He would look good in orange and blue. Thats a great offense to watch its fantastic.

Plus, they were playing exactly NFL game with the average talents. Is this something we need badly right now?

I think quite the opposite after watching him closely for the first time all year. He looked off his receivers well and put some passes into tight spots. I was also surprised as his mobility, he has some quickness and can escape the rush and turn it upfield if he needs to. He definitely looks NFL ready to me.

what? I'm not sure he went to his 2nd option a single time last night. I do agree he has good movement in the pocket, but damn he had all day to throw back there.

It definitely looked like he was considering more than 1 receiver on many of his passes.

He didn't have to look off too many guys, as his primary target was often wide open.

I couldn't find much to criticize with his play last night. I think the guy is legit. He'll make a solid NFL quarterback.

If you are Carolina who do you want more, Luck or the DL from Auburn and Tebow/Orton? I am guessing Luck would be far more expensive.

I think in order it's QB then OT then DEs asmost expensive. Carolina will either get Luck or trade down. While the other guys are solid, Luck is a franchise QB.

I think Luck looked simply amazing last night. Even the first half, where he was 'bottled' up, he still looked pretty good.

That kid is special. I hope some magic happens and he ends up a Bronco.

That "magic" will have to be Elway getting Harbaugh in here... Then I would bet money that Luck will tell Carolina he won't sign with them and he will end up in Denver. It all hinges on Harbaugh though and we should find out that story in the next week or two.

I forget when the play was, maybe the third quarter, but VT rushed a couple guys right up the middle into Luck's face. He started rolling out to his right and threw a beautiful pass to a TE that wasn't even open at the time he threw it.

He's incredibly accurate, his arm strength isn't Elway level, but it's plenty strong, his mobility is better than most, and most importantly of all, he runs a very complex offense while in college. Imagine if he wasn't busy taking classes at Stanford and dedicated his time to football only.
