Seems like he would be a late round pick. He didnt seem to be that good in games with good defensive teams seems to high you would think mallet would be a top 5 with his arm strength.

my "step-uncle" who coached HS football in Texas and Oklahoma for 30 years says the word is Gabbert doesn't throw well on the run going to his left. if he figures that out, then he's legit. if not, he's gonna drop after workouts.

regardless, i'm a little surprised he's declaring. i wonder if grades, he's crossways with Pinkel or something behind the scene isn't helping make the decision. the guy threw for like 70 yards at Texas Tech.

This is why I hate those predictions by the McShay, Mayock, and the other guy (can't remember his name?) The kid needs one more year to develop IMO. He would be a GREAT QB if he had one more year to fix the few issues he has. Instead he'll come out early and have to work on some things to get a chance. He's got a great arm and is very smart, but he has issues with getting pressured and moving and throwing, it seems. Good luck to him, just surprised to see him come out for the draft.

Another year in Pinkel's offense is not going to make him a better NFL QB. He still won't take snaps under center and he still won't be forced to make NFL throws. The guy is a project, but he would be a project next year too.

This, he doesn't take snaps from under center which presents a whole plethora of issues. He also doesn't read defenses or call his own audibles. Physically he is impressive, but I think mentally he would be a 3 year project at minimum. How many successful NFL QB's have come from college offenses that almost always run 4-5 wide with the qb never being under center?

To be fair, the NFL is embracing spread formations a lot more. Lot of teams are throwing out of the shot gun now (Steelers, Pats, Colts for example)

Haven't seen enough of this kid to have an opinion on him.

It's still the nfl you have to be able to take snaps from center to run the ball and be able to read the defense from under center which is harder than in the shotgun. Top 5 seems to high.

That 50% completion percentage is fantastic.

it is actually what you would expect from a Rookie QB, especially after 3 games. Here are what some other QBs did in their first 3 games. I didn't add rushing yards, but that would put the stats in Tebows favor. So what does this tell us? QBs suck when they first start.

Tim Tebow: 40 of 81 for 651 yards and 7 TD (3 rushing) and 3 INT, finished 1-2
Tom Brady: 30 of 57 for 200 yards 0 TD and 0 INT, 2 fumbles (both lost) finished 1-2
Peyton Manning: 68 of 117 for 855 yards and 11 TD (1 rushing) and 5 INT, 1 fumble (non lost) finished 2-1
Michael Vick: 35 of 68 for 576 yards 1 TD and 3 INT, 4 fumbles(3 lost) finished 0-3
Sam Bradford: 64 of 112 for 651 yards and 5 TD (1 rushing) and 6 INT, finished 0-3

I'd wait four or five years before I start comparing TT to Tom Brady or Peyton Manning.
