The big, athletic QB has been extremely impressive this summer to those who have seen him throw. All 5A Central Metro as a junior, Awini is expected to have a big senior season in 2010. CU is believed to like him a lot.

Awini starting to get noticed

"I really do like CU," Awini said. "It is close to home and we have had two people from my high school that have gone to CU to play (Corey Nabors and Maurice Lucas) and I like their campus. … I just sent CU my film and they said they are going to take a look at that and get back at me."

Also noted in the article is that Awini played wide receiver as a sophomore and is athletic enough to move over if it didn't work out at QB. His main area for improvement is accuracy.

I switched Awini over to Athlete from Quarterback.

Not only are we full at QB, but it seems that we were recruiting him as an athlete anyway. I'm also going to make this switch for Trent McKinney and Brett Smith.

Awini was named the 2010 Gatorade Player of the Year in Colorado.

Congrats, Jaleel!!!

CSU or AFA right now. AFA is a better offense for him and would set him up for life. Deciding whether the military life would suit him.

Would be a bit of a project to tighten up his fundamentals but this kid has the size and athletism and (from what I can tell from film) a good enough arm to be a very good QB. Also the kind of athlete who could play WR.

It's not a reach to think that a decent qb coach could get this guy's mechanics in order. I didn't notice any deep passes on the vids. Anyone know if he can launch 'em deep?

His Scout profile does NOT show he is committed anywhere. Recent offers from Vanderbilt and Indiana.

Offer list:
Air Force
Colorado State
Eastern Washington
Indiana
Northern Colorado

Recent Scout update makes a point of saying he's a strong student who fits Vanderbilt's academic profile.

Air Force and Vanderbilt educations are right up there with Stanford. This young man should seriously consider either.

Finally removed the CSU commitment from Awini's profile.

As AJ said, he's at Indiana this weekend and Vanderbilt the next. Both are great academic schools that play in great conferences. Looks like he's going to land a great college opportunity.

Just found a tidbit that explains why some of Colorado's prepsters are suddenly getting Vanderbilt interest. (They deserve the interest, but HOW? I wondered. What was the connection?)

And here it is:

Vanderbilt assistant Ricky Rahne is a Colorado native and has, in the past few weeks, been hitting the state hard for unsigned talent.
Rahne is the QB coach at Vanderbilt, played QB at Cornell and is a native of Morrison, CO. Rahne finished his career as Cornell's all-time leader in nearly every passing category and earned the team's MVP honors three times.

Rahne bio

If he's from Morrison he probably when to GM like I did, so hopefully Jaleel signs there.

Edit- Went to BC. Good to see an SEC school going after Colorado players though.

Looks like CSU and John Bobbit have something in common now.

(A 1993 joke. Wow some people on Allbuffs weren't even born yet)
