Joel Klatt Today: We have some great unannounced commits.

I'm paraphrasing here. Joel said that people are going to love this class when they see it. According to him we have commits from several great players that haven't been announced yet.

FWIW

Hopefully this isn't like the "You're gonna love this team" i heard a little birdy say last year...

I hope Joel is right. But I've never understood the whole, "silent commit" thing. What's to be gained on either side for that?

Maybe we have stolen the highest ranked recruit from each of the Pac 12 schools and want it quiet so we can screw with them on LOI day :)

I've never really understood it either, unless it's a kid that is gonna flip his commitment and doesn't want to tell the other team.

Teenagers, you can't predict anything they do. Would be great if this is true, wonder who the recruits are though.

some guy on rivals posted in a thread on this that he wanted two 6'8" 280lb 4.8, strong as ox dts as the super-secret verbals.

i was typing the following response: "you mean your girlfriend has a twin sister????" when i realized i wasn't on allbuffs and therefore it wouldn't be appreciated.

as for this rumor itself-- this happens nearly every year and it has nearly every year been a let-down.

I heard the comment. Joel was dead serious, too. He sounded like he knew stuff that the rest of us don't. I hope he's right.

I like Joel. And he might be right (I hope he is). But like Liver said, we hear this just about every year. And I can't remember the last time it actually came true on NSD. I guess there is always a first time.

violent gerbil?

I believe we got that from Stanford but agreed to call them "Lemmiwinks" to take it up a notch.

don't kid yourselves. Joel has no idea what is going on

I would not go that far. He is an avid Buff and does still have many connections into the program. He does his job well on the radio as the guy who riles people up at times but he is pretty well connected to Buffs for Live, a group Embo started. I would say he has pretty good insight into what is going on.

Joel is so well connected that when the rumors began to fly about Embree being the next coach he procceded to spend his entire show trying to convince everyone that it was not true and that Embree would not be the guy.

I know even less than Klatt.

While I appreciate that he is trying to create some buzz around the football program, he is setting expectations unnecessarily high. Why would we possibly believe that there are a couple of secret 5 stars just keeping quiet only to surprise on signing day? Its just unrealistic and irresponsible. Also, any time the staff is spending letting Klatt in on recruiting details is time that isn't spent recruiting. I think these guys are smarter than that.

:yeahthat:

I think Joel is better connected than many here know. I'm nearly 100% certain he was part of the group of former players and "advisors" that was consulted during the hiring process.

I believe he was part of the group but I believe it has more to do with his position on the radio than anything else.

not sure i agree. i think, for better or worse, Klatt sees himself as a Barnett guy and fully within the Mac lineage of CU football as such. I think CU sees him that way right now given his "advisory" role in the recent hiring search that netted JE as very much part of the Mac continuum--which is, as you suggest, possibly amplified by his role on local radio and his analyst work for Fox Sports. I think at times maybe Joel overestimates the success of his tenure at QB and the place of that relative success in CU lore but I think Joel is very much a Buff.

Yeah that (again!). Bohn was smart if he included Joel to some extent. Having friends in the media is better than not. On top of that, I don't think anyone denies Joel's love of the program. Win-Win.

That said, Joel just dropped a "nuculus" on us when trying to describe a good nucleus of young players with the Rockies, so maybe he's got less on the ball than I thought.:smile2:
