"Allen Fieldhouse West"

So we know that CU's Athletic Department looks forward to the KU game every year as the ONE game we can count on a sellout. We also know that the ticket office jacks up prices in anticipation of the invading KU horde. So right out of the gates, before the season has started and before we know what kind of team we have, we as a program have decided to sell at least 1/3 of the "Keg of Foam" (trying to play the middle here, guys) to the opposing, obnoxious fans.

I understand the practical reasons for doing this. I've been in the business world for almost 30 years, I have an MBA from a top 50 school, blah blah. I'm not naive.

BUT at some point aren't you betraying your team and your fans by "cashing in"? For any passionate CU BB fans that have see our Buffs beat KU at home, doesn't that make you want to vomit, not only your mouth but on the fat ass in blue sitting in front of you?

Personally I think this approach is symptomatic of our insecurity complex. We don't think we're entitled to success so we cash in on our failures. It's the same mentality that makes coaching "searches" here an absolute joke.

I had to get that off my chest before Tuesday.

Go Buffs!

...I agree...there is a previous thread that talks about cheap ass CU fans...it has some points, but I agree with you.

Say what you will, but the game is sold out.

First time in CU basketball history that we've sold out 2 straight home games, if that gives you an idea of what type of fan base Bohn has had to work with here.

I don't like that the CEC becomes Allen Fieldhouse West, but to me, if it's going to be that way, let's at least make it hurt the wallets of the KU fans...unfortunately, there's no real effective way to charge CU fans normal prices and jack 'em up just for KU fans...

the KU fans don't bother me as much as the CU fans who only show up to this game. KU fans showing up isn't what makes this game a sellout and the other games not.

there were a lot of Mizzou fans at the FOAM DOME 2 weeks ago, too. i'd say well above a 1000. maybe more.

That's true, but season ticket holders don't have to pay the jacked up price for the KU game, do they? Because they shouldn't have to.

Good point - I was referring to single game ticket purchases, since our season ticket holder base for basketball isn't all that big and leaves plenty of inventory available for single games... (does anyone know how many non-student season ticket holders we have this season or have had in recent seasons?)

The fan base is fickle for sure, but for years I've seen the fans show up when the quality on the floor is really good. Then when it drops (as it always has within a year), they stop coming. We haven't had consecutive sellouts, but we've had years where we approach a sellout - 9-10k - multiple times during the conference season. That proves to me that "if you build it, they will come." I contend that our AD's (not just Bohn) have never understood that. When they look to hire a new coach, they'd rather go cheap and low risk.

Bottom line: I'm cutting NO slack to the people running things up there. They run it like we're program with low expectations, and that's where they've stayed for years & years.

Here's what I'd like to see: 1) sell season tickets to that group of loyal fans, including students. 2) some time after that, offer single game tickets only to the season ticket holders. 3) make the remaining tickets available to the general public, including opposing teams' fans.

If they did it that way, they could make a point of saying "Keep Buff fans in the CEC - buy up single game tickets!" Instead they take the approach "please buy any tickets - we don't care who you are!"

Losers are as losers do. Sorry to be harsh, and I know this is the last time we have to deal with KU fans, but I still think we'll be small time as long as we think we are.

They don't do any kind of pre-sale for season ticket holders and/or Buff Club donors before single game tickets go on sale to the general public?

We'll be cashing in when the West Coast teams and all those fans pour in, too. Those teams travel just as well as Neb, Iowa State, KU, TexAgs, etc, and we'll be reaping huge new fortunes once we're gone from this crummy conference. I understand your cynicism towards raking in cash whenever we can, and this will be a huge win for us over Kansas and our coaches can show how great they really are.

I have no problem with what CU does - many schools have done it over the years (KU did the same thing for football vs. NU when they were the "visiting team" in their own stadium pre-Mangino). My biggest issue is -- all of the CU fans (including season ticket holders) who root for KU in this game. I've seen it every year I've been going - students, alums, etc. It's obnoxious.

@ the bold: Funny how they forget this when they bitch about CU hiking ticket prices.

KU fans will pay it, CU fans won't. Hell KU fans will pay more per ticket for this game than I do for my season tickets. It sucks, but then CU fans haven't had much reason to go to games.

buff Club members can purchase preferential seats through the foundation
