Man we played really well in that first half and we are still down. Can we play any better? I don't know. I think KU was just unconscious!!! If they continue that, we lose but if we can maintain how we played and KU comes down to earth we have a chance.

Go Buffs!

...and it looks like we could rebound better as well

Selby and MOrnigstar are unconscious. but they are also getting free looks. we need to win this some home court, easy buckets, make some FT's.

we aren't the better team. that's not the issue.
 
Not that it's a surprise, but we're getting killed on the boards. And you can forget about offensive rebounds.
 
Hell of a game...I saw the last three minutes on ESPN3. Would have been an unbelievable win, but I will settle for a respectable showing.
 
DAMN! What an effort by CU. Shoot neary 70% from 3point line, 88% on the ft line and only 6 turnovers. Stroy of this game, REBOUNDING. CU was outrebounded 35-19 overall but the killer, 11-2 on the offensive boards. This type of effort would have won the last two road games.

Great effort, could have really turned the season around with a win. Tough loss.
 
Dufault got completely manhandled and CU couldn't stop the inside game but maybe a couple times. That's pretty ridiculous when your team can't rebound. I mean that's the primary difference in this game tonight and as to how the season is turning out. Damnit!!!!

It's frustrating because with that, this team could've won tonight and could very easily be [17-4; 4-2].

The team played great. It just sucks that there is nothing they can do about it.
 
And of course they're losing there top 4 players for next season. So even when they're able to upgrade the post with Tunks back, an improved/bigger Roberson, and the insertion of Mills, they suddenly will not have Higgins/Burks/Knutson/Relphorde there.

I'm frustrated with the way things have turned out over the last week. :shot:

They've got some wins left in them (maybe getting to 6 or 7) but again, they've been exploited. Every team in the conference is strong in the post and will key on this with CU.

I still can't believe that there is "NOTHING THERE" with Eckloff or Beckley. I mean even just to add some frickin size, a few fouls, perhaps a few boards to even things up.
Dufault had 0 pts and only 3 rebs in how many minutes? That's not good. Plus he pulled out of the lane/hesitated 3 times with balls that should've been freakin dunked. Go up strong! Toughen up dude! Jesus!

That play right at the beginning of the game where he had a WIDE OPEN look down low and decided to kick it out to Relphorde for a jump shot had me :facepalm:....what the heck was he thinking? Post points don't get any easier than that!
 
We might not be able to shoot much better, but we sure can rebound better.

Tough loss, but Jayhawk domination of the boards was simply too lopsided. Back to earth now at (3-3) in the league. There's still a lot to play for this season. First and foremost, this losing streak is getting a little long. We've played Baylor well in recent years (awesome Big12 tourney win a couple years ago, and great home win last year) so hopefully we can steal one in Waco. After that the next 3 are ISU in Boulder, @ Mizzou, and aTm in Boulder. Doesn't get any easier, but there's a big difference between heading into the final stretch 5-5 instead of 4-6. Of course ISU at home has to be a win, but hopefully they can steal one in Waco, or get a solid home win against the Ags.

The home-stand against aTm and KSU on 2/9 and 2/12 will be what makes or breaks the season. 8-8 is a realistic goal for this team and would be a nice season considering how brutal the league is this year.

i pretty much agree with all of this re: Dufault. and i've thought to myself, "maybe we see Eckloff or Beckley" tonight to stand tall on the Morriss lerches in the paint. no doubt Tad knows basketball better than me.....but, hell, fouls to give against those MOrris clowns?

General thoughts from the game, didn't want to start a new thread.

I thought the heart was there tonight but the head wasn't. Not from the players, not from the coaches. The two plays that ended both halves were terrible and worse, selfish. In the first half Burks dribbled for 15 seconds, looked for nobody, then launched a stupid shot. (Alec, there's a reason I hate NBA ball - you just showed why.) At the end of the second half, 4 down with 16 seconds, Cory Higgins slowly dribbles up floor to a trap in the corner? In front of the CU bench? REALLY?

Those are 2 small examples of something I"m seeing and not liking: No set offense. It's chaos. It's Patton-ball, at its worse. Boyle needs to make Cory the point guard and create some semblance of a goddam offense for this team to accomplish ANYTHING.

It's not my habit to rip players, but Tomlinson offers us nothing. Sure he knocks down a three, but Dufault does that too, along with covering the largest human on the other team. Sit him down. Sorry, but he doesn't have the speed to play at a high level unless his passing and shooting are brilliant. I haven't seen a single pass from Nate that was brilliant since ... some other year.

Sharpe offers us nothing. He doesn't think like a point guard. He might be a fine player some day, but that day is not today. He needs to get his ASS in the gym and work on shooting, otherwise he'll never be a contributor here.

I predicted that Boyle would send some other bigs against these KU bigs. Eckloff made an appearance and that was good, but can we all look at the Morris guys to understand what big guys are supposed to play like? I haven't seen jack from Eckloff, Mills, or Harris-Tunks to make me believe ANY of these guys can be anything more than a softy. Some or all of these guys need to hit the goddam weight room and work on some offensive moves. Your scholarship isn't free, guys. Man up or get out of the program.

Higgins didn't have his best night, but his heart is beyond reproach. Burks gave us great points when we needed them, but he hasn't developed great basketball sense yet. Relphorde played well, Levi worked his ass off, Roberson played just fine (depended on him too much), and Dufault is the team MVP in my view because we ask so much of the guy.

Tad Boyle gets an D- in this game. Defense was okay but not great. Offense was mostly stupid.

We lost tonight because Kansas owned the glass. They just about doubled our rebounding total and I believe 2nd chance points were something like 21-2 in their favor.
 
We ended up with a great moral victory, though. That's all that counts. "We have a lot of good things to build on." And in basketball, with playoffs and CU's obvious championship calibre history, that's all we need.

Very true. I guess I expected to be outrebounded by these guys, but the offensive boards they took made a huge difference. But the ten 3 pointers - 30 points - were more frustrating to me ... just barely. It seems like they do this to us year after year.

I know I'm picking on the PG's but we really need more production on both ends of the floor from these guys. That said, they did take care of the ball really well last night. But that's a fur piece from being difference-makers in games like this.
 
I agree Rebounding was a huge difference, and I am not one for moral victories, but look at this;

How many layups did we miss, there are a couple I can think of right away that should have been automatic (Tomlinson...)

Kansas shot freethrows very well, even down the stretch, a couple missed FT would have been the difference and still they would have had a good FT shooting night.

Then there is the 3-pointers, I understand they are a good 3 point shooting team, but jesus, they were throwing crap up from way out and draining them all night.

Overall, I think our boys played very well, and if we played 10 games, I think we would win our fair share. But lets also keep in mind this is Kansas, they have a top knotch basketball program, who is poised pretty well this year and last year to win the whole thing. And with all that, we ran them hard both times. I think that says a lot about where our program is right now. We just need to figure out how to win games that we should win easily (Oklahoma, San Fran, etc.)

Depends on the NBA lockout, if there is a good chance of a lockout, he will return, if everything gets settled, then yes he will be back.

If I was giving him advice I would have to tell him to go to the NBA in his situation, its just hard to give up that kind of money. But I do think he can increase his stock by coming back for another year. Next year with a little down low presence, I think it will open him up a lot more. I also think going to the PAC-12 it will get CU a lot more attention that can then be focused on him, I also think the team with him next year would have a very good chance of wining the PAC-12.

Again, with all that said, unless there is a lockout, Burks is gone

would he know if there is a lockout before he has to declare?
 
wow Dufault got absolutely owned last night. I think he got stuffed more times than he had rebounds. I think Nate had his best game of the season last night, but that is not really saying much. I can't believe how well CU shot the ball from the outside. At halftime, they had 2 guys that were 3 of 5 beyond the arc. Crazy night.

He would have a pretty good idea. If there is a chance I would say he will likley be back, if they resolve it, he will be gone. I dont know how much of a betting man he is.
