Stewart Mandel trying to get back in the good graces of Allbuffs

Except that according to mandy, coaches aren't worried about signing a good class, they're worried about what the media thinks about their class.

I think his point has merit. Regardless of how the players pan out, getting a high ranked class can have very important benefits. National buzz about your program can help with future recruiting. It can also be important in pre-season rankings. As we all know, where you start in the rankings can sometimes be decisive in where you finish. So, if taking a 2-star kicker who happens to be the third or fourth best in the nation drops you from say number 6 or 7 down out of the top ten, that could be a worry.

Not saying it necessarily drives a coach's decision making, but it can affect a team.

I don't think the amount one kicker brings it down is going to affect anyone's attitude about a team's recruiting class.
