Lane Kiffin in hot water

Well dangit! They may just have to sign only 25 players next year instead of 30.

But then he winks.

I'll ask you how you feel about Lane again in four years. Then you can tell me what a great guy/coach he is.

I never can understand why there is so much coach hate here? I didn't like Ted Tolner or Paul Hackett, but I didn't rag on them and hate them forever. But here, it's always someone, like Shawn Watson, let alone RN, etc.

So far Lane Kiffin has done everything expected of him at USC...I'm sure not going to worry about something that went on at Tennessee. **** happens. They are just bitter that he left...he never liked it there and didn't like the SEC.

Are you kidding? Where do you think he learned his tactics? Pete skedaddled when the water got too hot, Reggie Bush lost the heisman, Kiffin was a part of all of this, and now he's returned to act as he always has. It's not hate, I don't hate him, but I think he represents what's wrong with CFB.

I agree Pete skedaddled and I have lost some of my respect for him...he was a great coach and then he took off. But I don't rag on him or hate him. I do believe Bush's family in San Diego were low lifes and they screwed Reggie (it probably hurt his step father more to lose the Heisman than Reggie) and USC but I still don't believe Kiffin or PC or the school knew what they were doing. It was down in San Diego and it was a personal family matter. Now if they are expected to police every player's hometown and what the families are doing that would be a different story. And how come what's his face, this years NC QB/Heisman got away with it? Total b.s.

I don't even hate Hawkins...but I'm glad he's gone because he was a horrendous mistake.

1. Concur. Total crap on Cam Newton, but also a non-sequiter in this discussion.
2. I don't hate Coach Hawkins either, but I absolutely disagree with how he did business on the football field.
3. I still predict that Lane Kiffen will find a way to disappoint USC fans. Gate, he attempted to lure Tennessee recruits to USC...he's not a good guy.

When coaches leave a position, isn't it possible that some recruits will follow? UCLA was hoping to get a bunch from SC because of the probation, etc. but that didn't pan out. Even CU fans were hopeful that a few would leave SC and go to CU. But I suppose you are saying there is some kind of proof that he personally contacted them to come with him? Or was it his Dad? Well, whatever...I've learned to wait and see how things shake out. And I'm looking at his coaching ability, on the field, with the players and not the other stuff.

Here's a link, and then there's a link within a link about the contact with recruits already enrolled at UT. Lane Kiffen was hired by a University. Don't you think he had any responsibility to that school? He left Tennessee in the lurch to pursue his own ambition. What does that say about his character? His loyalty?

Now it appears that there may be follow-on NCAA investigations based on Kiffen's brief time as a Vol. Does any of this ring some alarms for you?

U-Dub accused CU fans of sour grapes after we defiled Slick Rick's character when he jumped ship in a similar fashion. The Huskies now seem to hate Neuheisal more than we do. Take it for what it's worth.

Very true, before GB was fired, he had recruited Jeremy Maclin to CU. As everything was rolling downhill, it really looked like Mizzou would fire Pinkel then swoop in and hire GB right after CU canned him, so rumor has it GB told Maclin to go to Mizzou since he was headed there. Alas, Mizzou stuck with Pinkel, Maclin went to Mizzou and the Hawkins Error began - yes, recruits will follow coaches as they move from job to job. I seem to remeber we lost a couple of recruits to U-Dub when Skippy left town town too.

However, when talking about fUCLA's and yes, our hopes as well, of picking up $C recruits, it has nothing to do with coaching changes, but has EVERYTHING to with Kiffin's shady ways of oversigning to 31 recruits when he only has 20 scholarships available due to NCAA INFRACTIONS! Thus he gets a bunch of kids' hopes up, then the piper comes calling and he'll cut them without a second glance and the cuts will be left high and dry. Would/could it benefit us? Damn right it could, look at Paul Richardson last year. But make no mistake, the recruit shifts you're speaking of aren't due to coaching changes, it's due to the crap practice of oversigning.

Read the links...all from the Vols who were pissed back then. Some of that was just conjecture, nothing confirmed. And if NCAA decides now to investigate, then we have to wait and see how that turns out.

Now, I better shut up because I sure hate for that fake Darian getting more pissed that I'm commenting on something that someone else posted/started thread.

NCAA: Lane Kiffin failed to monitor staff

Feb 25 update ESPN
Kiffin, who left Tennessee following the 2009 season to coach at USC, was cited for failure to monitor an atmosphere of compliance within the Vols program and failure to monitor the activities regarding compliance of several assistant football coaches.
In a statement released through USC, Kiffen declined to comment on the advice of his legal counsel other than to say he "looked forward to working through the process with the NCAA."

Tennessee will have until May 21 to respond to these charges and is expected to go before the NCAA's Committee on Infractions June 10-11 in Indianapolis.
USC athletic director Pat Haden said it would be premature for him to comment on the charges involving Kiffin at Tennessee, but Haden offered a show of support.

Chris Low:
Kiffin, not Vols, real target for NCAA
...Kiffin, even though he’s now on the West Coast, may be the one who gets spanked the hardest by the NCAA for his refusal to adhere to the simplest of NCAA rules and monitor his assistant coaches.
But the more serious charge of failure to monitor was slapped on Kiffin … and not Tennessee.

At first,I couldn't recall another episode where a former coach's actions were separated from the school when it came to an NCAA ruling, but they are trying to distinguish between Kiffen and UT in terms of culpability. Interesting.

But then, a writer pointed out that this is similar to what happened at CU with Ricky N.

NCAA: Kiffin not compliant at Tennessee
What you can gather from news today is that Kiffin could suffer some sort of sanction that limits him in recruiting. I'm experiencing a bit of déjà vu because I covered a similar situation in 2002 when then-Washington coach Rick Neuheisel was grounded for eight months for violations he committed while coaching at Colorado.

That case was similar not just in that the violations occurred at a school where the coach was no longer employed, but also in that the previous school thought said former coach fell somewhere between cockroach and toe fungus on the pecking order of organisms.

Nice description eh?

I have a buddy on CSU's staff and he commented that among the coaching fraternity, Kiffen was frankly widely despised for many of his actions. What he did in terms of contacting commits at UT is now legendary within the coaching community. He even mentioned Slick Rick as the role-model for bad behavior.

-both were promoted well before their time (may be some jealousy in the coaching fraternity)
-both are viewed as having "done nothing" deserving of respect
-both have personalities bigger than their resumes
-both have broken NCAA rules, and seem to prefer shortcuts over hard work
-both have broken honor codes in the coaching fraternity, seemingly saying FU to the system

Can't wait for both programs to slide away. Too bad U$C hired Haden as AD, because I doubt he'll let it sink.

Kiffen especially seems willing to thumb his nose at ncaa rules and just say "catch me if you can, and then what are you going to do?"

He may well push them into action. Arrogance is the downfall of many men less talented than Lane Kiffen, and he ain't all that.

Lane Kiffin = Al Gore, They both sell B.S

Did you create this equation yourself? I think this ranks up there with E=MC(2). I would love to see your factorial equations that led to this conclusion.

In other news... Cam Newton did nothing wrong and Jeremy Bloom is being reinvestigated for illegal skiing.

Ted Gilmore is now a WR coach at USC. I know you have to go where the jobs are, but that seems like a bad move to me, assuming there were other options. Kiffin is a disaster waiting to happen.

I couldn't find the ones where Al Gore = Kiffen, but I did find the ones where Kiffen = dog poop.
