Does this mean that the season is over?

I am referring to the article that Dave Kreiger wrote in the post this morning ( I won't link it). He quotes Boyle several times but the article looked to me as a cover your ***** job by the coach. Indirectly blames the previous regime (justifiably so IMO) for the lack of depth and big men but I wonder if this starts to undermine the team. Usually when you start throwing out excuses about why you team cannot compete it sends a message to the team that they are not good enough.

I think the article does point out the failure of Bzdelik - for those of you who are convinced he was a good hire you were wrong. He built a team that was not designed to win in a physical conference like the Big 12.

We will see how this all works out but if Burks leaves this team will struggle again next year.
 
The season was over when they pissed away the Baylor game. This just drives it home for those that held out hope for an unlikely miracle.
 
I really hope CU doesnt start throwing in the towel. Yes the NCAA was a big goal for the year, but lets not think all is lost by going to the NIT. Lately they have been playing like a good NIT team not a NCAA team I will agree, but they still have a lot to look forward too and I really hope they dont think all is lost.

-Granted it is now a long shot, but if they can rally (the talent is there, but they would have to play flawlessly) the NCAA is still not out of the picture.

-Likely they can finish as they are playing now, go into the NIT and have a good chance of winning it, or at least getting to the Garden.

-What I absolutly hope they dont do is lay down, finish weak, possibly get a NIT bid and embarrase themselves as they did under patton in '06.


I do believe this team is a dangerous tournament team. If they can get hot, they can run a tournament, but right now the confidence is not there, and you can see it in their eyes.
 
the formula for beating them is well known now, every win is going to be really tough.

I don't think that CU is a dangerous Tournament team. CU does not play well inside and lacks a point guard...As you get into the tournaments the refs seem to let the games get more physical which CU does not do well with.
 
This team was hurt badly when Harris-Trunks went down. Even he was not sufficient to compete physically in the paint in the Big XII but without him Dufault is simply overwhelmed. Roberson is performing above expectations but he is still more the size of a small forward and looks to be wearing down.

I still believe that if they can pull it together and get hot a couple of times they have an outside chance at the tourney. Much more realistic would be a solid run in the NIT which I think would be a major step forward for this program.

I among many got my hopes up higher when they were playing well at the end of the OOC and the first couple of conference games. That turned out to be smoke and mirrors. They get beat up on the boards on both ends and have no answer to athletic big guys

I agree with you although the team is about what I expected. Two stars that basically play the same position and no complimentary players. This has been an issue with CU basketball for years - conference play is just tougher and the team struggles. I doubt if they can win another one on the road and a lost to UT at home will put them as struggling to make the NIT.

A key to running a tournament is to have players that get incredably hot. Again if Burks/Higgins/Knutson get unconsious, this is a team that can run the table. Only a few teams out there have players like that, the problem is if they arent hot, as they havent been, you are going to lose. Solid teams with PG and good inside play overcome single players efforts, that is just something we cannot do.
 
Positives - Burks and Higgins, Dufault has improved (would be a better 4 with a true 5 next to him), Roberson is a stud, Levi has had a great year

Neutral - Relphorde is hot and cold, No size (been that way all year, even Tunks-Harris wouldn't have helped that much), More than likely this team goes to NIT

Negatives - Point guard position kills us (Tomlinson and Sharpe have been very disappointing), no depth

Truly, this is a Pac-10 team playing in the Big XII. Boyle needs to make it a Big XII team playing in the Pac-12 in the future so that CU can dominate the Pac-12.

One of the best characteristics a team can have is resilience. While the Big XII seasons has had a few more "downs" than we would have hoped (bad road losses at blOwU, bailor, and ISU, tough home loss to aTm), this team shook them off and responded in good fashion (comeback win against UTerus, beating the nubs one last time, taking it to Kjuco 3 times).

You never really know about team chemistry, how well the players will respond to a coaching change, how they respond to inevitable disappointments during the season - until they play the games. I think we're in for a (mostly) fun ride with CU Basketball in the Pac-12.
