Improvements, Renovations, and Upgrades to Folsom Field

This topic popped up in another thread and I think it needs its own. I think the location and character of the original stadium should never change. However it is obvious to keep up in the arms race that is college football the stadium could use some help. What do you all think should be added to the stadium?

they need to tighten some of the bleachers as well. i know it sounds stupid but some of those ****ers are dangerous.

Ya I think some of the seating needs renovated or at least looked at by maintenance. If the team does well and we sell out a few games and get to a bowl I say additional seating should be added. only places for that really are the north endzone or extending the upper level on the east side all the way around to Balch.

Adding seats should be a long-term goal. Just selling out a couple games and going to a bowl game really does not justify seat expansion IMO.

They need to increase the size of Dal Ward, tear down and rebuild the field house and add an indoor practice facility and wrap the bleachers around the north end zone.

My hope is that the interest, which is already very high just from the hiring of the coach, would increase to the point where this would be worthwhile by achieving these goals. I know a lot would have to fall into place though for it to make cents. Like that 50millionare club stepping up.

To me, priorities should be:

1. Improvements to attract recruits
2. Improvements to attract fans
3. More seating once improvements and better teams attract enough fans to justify it.

Junc hits another homerun, but what do expect from a Tiger?

:iagree: I would like to see one of the major Hotel chains ( Hyatt, Marriott, Westin )partner with the school and build a hotel either adjacent to, or on campus. The school of business could add a Hotel and Restaurant Management degree and have students staff and help (run) the place. Alumni, visiting recruits and their families would have a place stay and CU might even make a profit

I think the first order of business is to improve the scoreboards and sound system.

Something else I'd look at is installing field turf. It ends up saving the school money and may increase our home field advantage and differentiate us from other Pac-12 schools. Almost all of them play on grass. Further, it helps generate revenue because you can have events at Folsom without having to worry so much about tearing up the field.

There are 2 big projects I like. One is renovating the press club along with expanding the Flatirons Club (West). I'd love to see that extend from the 10 yard line on the North to the goal line on the South. With this, something needs to be done with Balch. The other one is an expansion of Dal Ward that includes an enclosure of the North end zone and dedicated tunnels for players and Ralphie to run out of. These two would increase seating capacity a bit, but not by a whole lot. Maybe we'd get to 60k with these moves. More importantly, they would add premium seats while making the stadium louder.

P.S. The football improvement I really want to see isn't a Folsom or Dal Ward project. I want to see a permanent indoor facility with a regulation field that can double as a practice & training facility where our indoor T&F team also competes.

1. Put in additional seats to "close off" the open end of Folsom. Elevate them and have them wrap around from the end of the stands to the side of Dal Ward. The walkways to the lockerooms would then go under them. Doesent have to be anything huge, but Folsom would look much better this way.

2. Put a larger video board on Dal Ward.

3. Renovate Balch Fieldhouse/the boxes above it.

4. Take the money you have left and put it into the Coors Event Center. It needs it a lot more then Folsom does.

When you say field turf, do you mean artificial turf, like the ones you see at Boise State. if that is what you mean, i will have to say hell no to that. The natural grass may be more expensive, but the health and safety of the players is worth the expense. Also the Pac 12 is filled with teams that are built for speed, playing on astro turf could actually play into the hands of teams like USC, Cal, Oregon and etc.

Field Turf is not that blue ****. And the newer types of it are awesome/crazy. They mix in real grass with the **** and all that. It is definitely something to look into. Folsom needs to be used as many days as possible.

just need to hire good grounds keepers, and cover up the turf when you are hosting events.

I'm not convinced that field turf is that much more maintenance free than natural grass. Field turf has those rubbery pellets to make it spongey. After 5-6 years, it gets all matted down and the rubber pellets need to be replaced. I'd prefer to keep the natural grass, personally.

If there are two words that define Boulder it is:

1. Natural
2. Grass

Why would we want to get away from that?

Bigger video board on the north end is in the works. Dont know when they will put it up or how big it will be.
