Ambitious but rubbish.

Are any of our guys besides Jimmy Smith, Jalil Brown, and Nate Solder headed to the combine?

FWIW- I saw he posted on twitter his vert was up 1.5 inches since the end of the season as well.

really? i think he would be a free agent signee at best....but i hope you're right.

He'll be a late -round to FA signing, classic stupid NFL scouts, for the same reason Jimmy and Nate will blow up and go above where they played in college Scotty is going to slide.

Nate's already in Indy....and he's freaking huge

I'm thinking Jimmy and Nate are really going to impress. The combine was made for those two + Cam Newton. Hopefully Jalil does well too, I just don't see him testing as well numbers wise.

This isn't an objective post. McKnight doesn't have the tools to see the field in the NFL. Big-big time athletes occasionally flopping does not imply that guys without requisite size/speed/quickness are likely to be successful.

Seems like his obvious "in" might be working out with buddy Sanchez for the Jets.

My point was scouts over-rate work-out wonders and often over-look on-field performance when it comes to the combine and the draft.

that is because work-outs are controlled and the performance on the field has so many variables it is impossible to standardize or compare between players.

Objectively speaking Scotty should be a UFA. He lacks the measurables that teams look for in both size and speed. You can overcome one of those with the other but when both are lacking teams tend to shy away. He also played for a losing program which hurts and isn't going to be seen as a probable contributor on special teams. He isn't a return threat and again lacking size and speed he isn't going to be seen as a coverage guy.

The positives for him are his excellent hands and proven toughness and ability to get open in traffic, kind of the classic slot receiver. He should at worst get a look from the Jets because of his friend the starting QB. If he can get one other team to fall in love with him he will get drafted because they know that the Jets have the inside track on him as a FA.

Sipili might get a look as a FA as well but his legal issues may chase away the interest teams had in him. In the days of 3-4 defenses an ILB who is naturally 250lbs plus with some mobility can get some attention. Patterson might also get somebodies interest as a FA based on his footspeed even though he never did much in college. I wouldn't bet on either of these but they are posibilities.

As much as I would love to see Scotty get a shot, I for one, will be surprised to see him on a NFL roster. I walked past him on the Mall a couple of years back. I really doubt he's even 5-11.

John Fox said right now Orton is the starter. If Tebow wants to start, he is going to have to earn it.

ouch that hurts for Nate, to tell you the truth I am pretty surprised by that number.

Considering that Pittman focused on those kinds of lifts, that's pretty disappointing. Means about nothing, though.

Pitt didn't really focus on bench though. That was one of my complaints about his training, among other things.

are they going to measure cleans? or unicorn chasing?

DS rode off in the unicorn. Let it go.

VJ is a measure of your clean as well. Very similar movements so expect to see him put up a good number for someone 315lbs.

Watching OLs, don't see Solder, everyone else (Carimi, Costanzo) seems like they're there - am I missing something>?

edit: I see him, just didn't see his group for a long time. Frigging Rich Eisen said "Solder trying to become the first Buff drafted in 1st round since 1993, wow" before he was corrected (2003).
