CU SKIING: Buffs Lead NCAA's At Midway Point

Woot! Go Buffs!

Colorado, ranked No. 2 in the nation behind Vermont, amassed 408 points after Wednesday’s four events, which included the giant slalom being moved up a day because of a storm expected in the area overnight. That has the Buffaloes on an 800-plus point pace, which would be the first at nationals under the current scoring format adopted in 2009, and would also translate to one of the highest point total under the old format dating to 1983.

Dartmouth holds second with 362 points, with Utah (353.3) and No. 1 Vermont (349.5) on its heels; New Mexico rounds out the top five with 305, while three-time defending champion Denver is sixth with 262.

With no races now scheduled for Thursday, CU’s alpine skiers have two days of training ahead of the slalom, provided the weather allows for it. CU’s 46-point lead is the fifth largest at the midway point in the last 20 NCAA meets, with those who owned bigger margins all going on to win

Let's go Buffs!

Bring home that national championship!

Another national championship to add to the Pac-12's impressive list of national championships would be great.

The first shot has been fired in the CU-Utah rivalry.

From CUbuffs facebook - In a classic sprint, CU junior Eliska Hajkova beat Utah's Maria Graefnings at the end of the women's 15K classic, winning by four seconds to claim the gold medal and NCAA crown in Stowe. Joanne Reid was fifth and Alexa Turzian 14th. Race was run in rain and fog, incredibly tough conditions.

Possibly a really crazy question that nobody knows the answer to, but what events are left, and how do we stack up in those events?

Well, the initial post was after the first day, which was halfway through, and we won 2 events, and we added another championship since that, but I have no idea how the hell they score this thing.

ncaa.org has a link on their page to watch live, but it's in the middle of the men's 20k x-country event, which might be the most boring event ever. CU's running 1st and 3rd.

It appears we're tearing **** up.

I believe the Chinese Downhill is still left which we should win going away.

Remember love starts at the top of the hill.

Reid Pletcher OF CU WINS THE 20K. Erik Bjornsen of CU comes in 3rd. One more buff in the top 10.

CU is killing it.

Sacky: there are 2 events left - men's and women's slalom tomorrow. In winning the regional, the Buff men finished 3-5-8 and the women finished 4-8-11. so I think they are pretty strong. They will have a comfortable lead heading into the final day after today's results.

I'm gonna rep you for that. Who else would know this stuff? Awesome.

Scores after today's XC events: http://www.barttiming.com/eisa/Results11/ncaa2011tm.htm

1. UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO CU 647.0
2. UNIVERSITY OF UTAH UU 562.5
3. DARTMOUTH COLLEGE DAR 500.0
4. UNIVERSITY OF NEW MEXICO UNM 492.0

You get 50 points for 1st, and it goes down a little bit from there, to 1 point for 39th. 84 point lead seems pretty safe, I think if CU skiis clean tomorrow, we've got another title.

Also, in the GS yesterday, as a team, the 3 women skiers finished 1st and the 3 men finished 2nd. Same skiers will ski the slalom tomorrow.

The overall team scores just got posted: http://www.barttiming.com/eisa/Results11/ncaa2011tm.htm

CU leads Utah by 84.5 pts and 3rd place Dartmouth by 147. So short of multiple DQs or DNFs, Buffs should take the NC again!

It's great to see Allbuffs evolve into a place to track skiing.

Does anybody know how we can recruit some CU ski enthusiasts? Some good user names are still open: Sweden Buff, Norway Buff, Finland Buff.

Alps Buff?

Just waiting on the official results to be tabulated/released. In the bag, though. Mark it.
