Jon Embree is not karl dorrell

i don't know if the team will be any good. i don't know if we really have enough athletes, especially considering the schedule. i don't really know if the staff, top to bottom, can coach this team to immediate success.

but, 3 days into spring ball, i know one thing for true and certain: the comparisons to karl dorrell were incredibly unfair to coach embree. he's not a "quiet confidence" type of head coach (and i know A LOT of people in the coaching circles i know thought he'd be like dorrell in mannerism). the dude is INTENSE. his staff is intense.

i think this may lead to a fairly difficult transition year for our Buffs, but i don't care at this point. you have to build for the long run and these guys are coaching like their very lives depend on it. every down. if the players buy in, we are going to be in position down the road to be very good.

athletes and execution are far more important than scheme in the college game. these guys... well, let's just say i am nearly giddy at this point. they have a plan. they are hands-on. they know what they want to do, both strategically and tactically.

i am really stoked so far.

GO BUFFS!

Looking forward to seeing the Buffs do the unthinkable: beat every Pac-12 team assuming that Oregon State makes it to Boulder.

I'm hoping for the best, but preparing for the worst. We have a brutal schedule next season.

I used to get pissed when people compared him to John Blake, but I'm starting to wonder. Hopefully I'm wrong.

what set you off?

aren't you surprised at how vocal and intense embree has been? while he was never a shy guy, i do not remember him being this intense while he was a position coach here. i attribute it to a couple things-- 1. he knows his job as hc is to set a standard and vision and he wants intensity. 2. he loves CU and his passion for this is really something special. 3. he thought the team needed a heart transplant and he's willing to pay a short term price for a long term goal.

we'll see if it pans out, but i am pretty stoked.

I agree with all of that. I'm just curious as to the specific trigger that made your man juice explode all over allbuffs.

I agree he's intense. But I don't believe he will execute his athletes. That would be a bit much.

exactly who was comparing embree to coach dullard? I don't remember anybody saying that. We all knew he was passionate and had a lot of fire. Just some of us thought EB was the bigger name.

I was, sort of. I thought Emburrito was going to be a little more cerebral, like how Dorrell appears, and that EB was going to be the one who really brought the fire. Turns out, I was wrong. And I will be delighted to continue being wrong on this point.

I am really pumped about all the level of intensity we hear coming from the players and coaches. This is the fire we need to forge a tightly bonded team that can actually compete at a high level.

allbuffs disappoints me sometimes. But then, I am continually disappointing allbuffs.
