4 Big East teams go down

Theoretically, when you have 11 teams.... 5 are supposed to lose....

you can never judge teams based on a one and done tournament.... anything can happen on any given day.... and these games also have alot to do with match-ups.....

when you have 6 teams seeded 5 or lower......

hope they crash and burn this weekend

Why all the hate? The Big East is a great basketball conference. I have no allegiance to any team since my college is CU and my law school is Temple. Big East basketball is great to watch night in and night out.

and.... like I said... in a one and done tournament, it is not fair to judge on one game....

When UConn can win 5 games in 5 days that says it all. Some good teams, but 11 didn't deserve to be in. Colorado deserved to be in over some.

I don't give a **** how good the conference is, no conference should get 11 teams into the tournament.

Ill call this west coast and central "coast" bias.....

That "11"th team was Marquette who WAXED Xavier... A10 Champs.... Marquette is every bit as good as most teams in the tournament. The Big East gets 11 teams because they have 11 teams that belong there. Whether I like it or not.... CU would be the 12th or 13th team in that conference this year....

The Big East teams that lost: Villanova a 9 seed, Louisville a 4 seed, Georgetown a 6 seed, & St. Johns a 6 seed. George Mason was playing a hurt and higher seeded team so no shame there.... The Louisville and GTown games were upsets... and they happen.... but those 2 teams are middle of the Big East pack.... lastly, St. John's a team that played a perennial tournament winner that is a good team in Gonzaga....

I see no shame in any of these....

11 bids for the Big East (a 16 team conference) isn't mathematically much different than the Big 10 getting 7 bids from an 11 team conference. In fact, when you consider that the Big East only got a max of 8 in previous years a good case can be made that they had usually gotten screwed by the selection committee in the past.

There's 16 teams in Big East so it's not like 11 got in from a 12-team conference. Every Big East team that got in is deserving, Marquette was the only one close to being on the bubble. Upsets happen in this tournament and some higher seeds will undoubtedly lose today or tomorrow from the BE and other conferences. When this many teams from 1 conference get in, some are bound to lose early on.

At least 2 Big East teams will lose in the 3rd round since there's 2 games that pit Big East teams against each other, but I'm sure someone can find a way to use that as an argument that the Big East is over-rated.

It's obvious the big east is the best conference, but they also have by far the most teams. That's why they are annoying and I hope most of their teams lose. On a related note, I wonder what they're going to do with their tournament with TCU joining next year. ****ing 17 teams.

Comparing TCU basketball to Big East basketball it means that the #16 seed is going to get a win in the play-in game. In the regular season whoever is playing TCU gets an easy break in the schedule. In time TCU may get decent in basketball. Texas has enough players for them to recruit but the move was a football move, in basketball they had a hard time in the MWC which is a good mid-major but nothing close to what they will face on those long road trips to the Big East gyms.

It's not hate, Philly. Disgust is a much better term.

I didn't question the number of teams the bigleast has in the dance. In fact, I don't have an issue with any of the 11 being there. My contention was with some of the seeds they were awarded.

Yes, and 2 of 5 B12 teams did too...

And 3 of 5 $EC teams. Almost 4 of 5, if Kensucky doesn't get a last second shot to beat Princeton.

Villanova is the only Big East team that probably wasn't good enough to be in the tourney, based on how they were playing at the end of the year. But they were good enough early in the season that their overall resume' was good enough to rightly earn them a spot.

yeah...I hate the Big East love in bball as well, but come on, I don't think you can really point to teams losing in a do-or-die tournament as signs of weakness. The Big East is overrated (just due to how much unproportional love they get), but they were still the best conference in bball this year. I thought the Big 10 getting SEVEN teams in was more surprising.

Though I'm fine with the Big East having 11 teams make the tourney, that is a dumb statement. There is no way to prove or disprove your statement.

it is an opinion.... all sports analysis is an opinion.... especially the BCS :)

now you want a quota system????

I don't know what kind of system I want. I just want one thats fair to a team like CU. What happened to those kids on selection day was heartbreakikng. Plus, there is a quota system. The majors get several teams in, the minors get one, usually.

Exactly how does that "say it all"? UConn got hot at the right time and won some close games. Their run in no way diminishes the strength of the Big East conference. All eleven teams that got bids deserved them.

The Big 10 getting seven bids is much more suspect.

Agreed. Three 14 loss teams from the big 10

Big East is 8-7 so far in the tourney. Down to 4 teams left - Syracuse, UCONN, Notre Lame and Marquette.

Excellent analysis... i fully expect, if one of those 4 doesn't win the whole thing, that most people on this board will call for the Big East to be relegated to Division 2 athletics.

The Big East is 8-7. There are 4 Big East teams left. Just a fact, no judgement implied. No need to get all sandy vag'd about it.

that wasn't really at you.... cause you arent piling on... others are... I actually should have said that IF all 4 don't win the National Title, then people will want them relegated to Div 2.... That makes more sense...

Of course Big East basketball isn't D-2 athletics.

Big East football, on the other hand.....
