Hamilton's a big-time prospect. Likely attending our Spring Game.

Q&A with Hamilton: http://donbosco.powermediallc.org/2010/10/14/q-and-a-with-darius-hamilton/

Father was former NY Giant Keith Hamilton

North Jersey Defensive Player of the Year: http://www.northjersey.com/sports/hs_sports/111742274_He_s_seriously_talented.html

Hamilton led Don Bosco's defense this past season, recording 13 1/2 sacks to go along with 63 1/2 tackles.

"I really want to go to a place where I have a chance to play freshman year and can make the most of my opportunities," Hamilton said. "I definitely want to take some visits and see what its like."

Hamilton Defensive Player of the Year

When Darius Hamilton got serious, that meant serious trouble for opponents.

The Don Bosco junior defensive tackle, the son of former Giants star Keith Hamilton, led the vaunted Ironmen defense with 13 1/2 sacks and was fourth with 63 tackles. He was a game changer and is the North Jersey Defensive Player of the Year.

To Hamilton — D-Ham to his friends — the credit goes to a maturing process that kicked into high gear last season.

Hamilton has now picked up a CU offer.

Hopefully we can work the Don Bosco connection through Tony Jones. Kanavis McGhee also played on the Giants with his dad for a couple years, so that can't hurt. Especially since Kanavis would be Darius' position coach.

Like our chances with this one, would be an awesome start for this staff.

Is this based on anything besides a gut instinct? I like that we have a former teammate on the roster and that the position coach knows his dad, but it still seems like a long shot to pull a 5* out of that part of the country. Not that I'm complaining in any way if we do...

If he visits Boulder, I will be happy. Beyond that, I am really not sure how anyone can say they like our chances.

That's sort of my feeling too, but I don't follow recruiting as closely as many around here so I was wondering if there was something I wasn't aware of.

Nah. Tony Jones was a teammate at Don Bosco. McGhee was a teammate of his dad's with the Giants. There's also the factor of dad respecting an African-American head coach enough to make sure his sone gives Embree an opportunity to present his case. But we're on the outside looking in on this one.

Unless someone actually knows the kid or someone close to him that is talking then it is always speculation to an extent.

That said the fact that we are on his radar, that he has some connections to the program, and that he hasn't said anything to count us out is all positive at this stage of the game.

If we could get a commit from him, especially fairly early in the process, it would be huge from the standpoint of generating positive attention and momentum for the program. Guys like this are the guys that other players pay attention to. It would mean a lot to have him committed when our coaches are visiting other quality players.

I am wondering if Kanavus played with his dad for the Giants, if so we may have a much better chance than you would think. Also the fact that his dad was a good enough player to be a pro means that he will have someone to help him filter the garbage out of the recruiting process and look more objectively at his decision which I think is good for our chances.

Not gonna happen.

I wouldn't put the beer money on it happening but at the same time as long as he is willing to take our phone calls the chance exist. Lots of NJ players have gone to that baren wasteland known as Nebraska as well as other places across the country.

I don't have my hopes up but at the same time the truth is none of us know where he is going. As long as CU isn't out of it we still have a chance.

I was talking about a hypothetical early commit.

Hamilton is really open to a lot of schools. I think if Colorado keeps at it they can bring Hamilton in for an official. You guys can check out his highlights here, 4th from top http://tinyurl.com/3ls9pmf

We would love to have Hamilton in Colorado. I think everyone has been thinking that we are out of it. He'd likely get a lot of time as a true frosh here. I think it would be a good situation for him with the way our coaching staff is set up, since he's a versatile guy and our DLs get both the interior perspective from Mike Tuiasosopo and the exterior DL/ 3-4 OLB perspective from Kanavis McGhee.

Thanks for sharing.

 Looking at him still

you know man, I like you as a poster, but come on...do you really have to let us know that such and such is still a Cal target? Rhetorical question, but just to make sure - NO, you really don't. If we're battling it out for a kid, and it seems that Cal fans feel you have an inside track or something, cool - thanks for letting us know. But we haven't been in it for Hamilton for a long time, so why do the **** do we care that Cal's awesome class may potentially get better?

It just sort of elicits acrid emotions - you know? Sort of like rubbing salt on the wound, because CU really is in a rebuilding state right now...has been for years, and is sort of getting annoying.

I think I have a slightly better suggestion.

We don't bitch about what he posts here in regard to Cal football. This will create a false sense of security with allbuffs for flukes, and he'll post freely. Then, next year and beyond when we are legitimately competing for this top end talent, we all go over to allflukes.com or whatever that fan board is he posts on and bomb the board with comments, and at the end of each post, we thank flukes profusely for the invitation. Whaddya think? (LF, don't read this.)

:) - I dig. Sorry to come off as bitchy...but what can I say, recruiting this season has gotten me into a sort of bitchy state in terms of our football program.

^^Best strategy^^

We also know the history of Cal football. This isn't the first time they have an out of proportion quality class. Look at what has happened in the past, they have had some good years but never been able to sustain any kind of regular winning. I don't see any reason to suspect anything different this time.

Give CU a couple of years to get past the D2 damage and start to win and we will see a lot less of this stuff.

Also remember back a couple of years to the visitorys we had from our opponents. It seems that our current visitors at their worst are worlds ahead of th Fusker trolls, the kitty idots, the mouths from missery, etc.

Besides, they have to put up with tini', I think we win in the trade.

Fair enough. My intent wasn't to gloat especially since many kids will wind up choosing elsewhere but the bobbing smiling face emoticon would probably piss me off so you are right, and I apologize. This board has great recruiting info and there are four or five targets here that are in play between SC, Cal and Oregon right now in addition to a local Colorado kid still undecided. Even if CU is not in the mix, my thought was that some would want to know what may be shaping up, however, if CU is not in the running I understand not wanting to hear about any of them. We've sucked way longer than CU has and this is exciting to us. We usually don't see this type of recruiting success and my urge to share it blinds me to other sensitivities. I will refrain from posting anything further on Cal's targets here. I understand where you are coming from and I appreciate being a guest here. I didn't start the thread on Cal's class in this forum btw. I only posted baby Canadian bears and a fat bear with a 70's chick on that thread.

You're fine liver - one of the best opposing fans we've had on the site. Just keep in mind that while we like news on almost all recruiting, it can start to wear thin when we hear about how awesome Cal is doing in recruiting when we can't seem to get over the hump with any big commits.

It's more than that. Even if we had the nation's #1 class, people would be bitching. Consider the audience. This is a CU fan site. At a certain point, information and cheerleading for a different team becomes too much.
