Fiesta BCS Trouble

personally, I think it is a Texas conspiracy to get the Cotton Bowl BCS status.... because they don't have a BCS bowl within the country of Texas....

Can you imagine if Jerry Jones had another Super Bowl like fiasco hosting the MNC game?

They should upgrade Qualcom and replace the Fiesta with the Holiday Bowl.

This opens the door for the Cinch Jeans Rocky Mountain Showdown to finally take it's rightful place as a BCS bowl.

This. But Qualcomm is a TOTAL dump, I hated that place for the couple Bronco games I went to while living in San Diego.

From a Pac-12 perspective this could be pretty good.

The Fiesta already has ties with the Big 12, so replacing the Fiesta with the Cotton would be no change in the BCS lineup from an auto-bid status standpoint.

However, the Fiesta would still be a "big time" bowl game with only one conference tie-in (most likely the #2 Big 12 team), if any at all.

The expanded Pac-12 could really use an upgrade for their #2 team and the bowl in Phoenix would be a perfect location.

This would be awesome if they actually played the game in the Cotton Bowl. Screw Jerryworld, the actual Cotton Bowl is by FAR the loudest, best stadium I have ever been to. There's not a bad seat in the house and it holds over 90K.

And has like 3 bathrooms for all 90,000 fans.

It's definitely not luxuious, and the seats are all narrow and crammed together, but it is intense and louuud. I like how the upper deck hangs wayyy over the lower deck.

Speaking of the stadiums, who all has been to the University of Phoenix UFO in Glendale? It looks pretty sweet - I especially like the real grass they roll in.

Greg -- haven't they done a bunch of renovations to the ole Cotton Bowl? Thot I read that somewhere.....

you guys a rookies, real football fans wear diapers to football games in the south. You are not a man unless you wear a diaper to the game.

Why wear diapers? there are plenty of husker fans to go around.

As a bowl destination Tempe>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Dallas. And the Cotton Bowl is a ****ing dump.

From the bits and pieces that I've been reading, it sounds like the Fiesta Bowl could lose more than its BCS status, like its tax exempt status. That will take down the bowl and a lot of the individuals running the operation, who can be held personally responsible for the tax liability.

It bottles my mind that people still operate non-profits for personal gain after all the jail time served by leaders who have used the 501(c)(3) as a 501(c)(ME)

hold on, I'm confused by your last comment on non-profits and personal gain. How is that related in any way. If you create a non-profit, you are absolutely allowed to pay any salaries/bonuses that you want, you just can't distribute any extra profits to shareholders.

Yes, it is no longer a dump - or maybe it is. Both times I've been in it i was not in any condition to pay attention to the aesthetics of the bathrooms, or quality of the paper towels or armrests.

It is now two full bowls stacked on top of each other with a giant jumbotron at one end (the side that Texas faces, OU has to look backwards to see it). All of the seats are stacked very close to the field, and there are no openings in the seats now, its closed off all around. It's not like other big stadiums like Texas, rose bowl where the upper seats are 300 yards from the playing field - everything is right on top of the action.

I have been there... very good stadium from an amenities and sight line point of view. Not exactly easy to get to unless you have a car. There is basically a small city built around the stadium with shopping, restaurants, and bars......

You are confused, but are you mind-bottled?

There are reports that Fiesta Bowl funds were used to pay for an employee's wedding and to fly guests. That is the definition of using funds for personal gain.

I think the Fiesta Bowl committee will claim that all of the improprieties were conducted by one person, and that he's being prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and has been removed from any position of authority. I think there's a lot of truth to that argument, from what I can gather. Based on that, I still don't see much happening to the bowl itself.

In fact, the Fiesta Bowl will probably be the squeaky cleanest of all bowls, financially, going forward. I'd be more worried about some of the other bowls, frankly.

Yea I'm worried about the Beef-O-Brady's bowl, I would hate to see that one be relocated, or even dissappear...

I hope to hell the whole bowl system gets exposed. Schools are losing millions even on BCS bowls while Bowl CEO's are getting paid over 500k salaries.
