Jon Infante of the Bylaw Blog reported today that the NCAA has ruled that institutions can no longer subscribe to Rivals.com affiliated sites. The rationale "is that Rivals provides video of nonscholastic competition that is not available to the general public."

UPDATE
The plot thickens. According to CBS's Bryan Fischer, "Every single school just had to report a secondary violation 'if they were or ever have been subscribed' to Rivals."

UPDATE 2
Fischer also says he has received the emails that got sent out, and he believes this ban applies to Scout, 247sports, and ESPN recruiting as well.

Very interesting. Sounds like the NCAA is trying to get at these street agents by killing their camps.

So what does dply do now with the other half of his day?

The NCAA is completely clueless.

Cam Newton's dad gets $180k, Tressel outright lies to everyone, and the NCAA solution to is to tell everyone that he needs to cancel subscriptions to Rivals, Scout, and ESPN Insider

Not available to the general public?? Are they serious? Do they think Rivals and the rest stay in business off money from these schools? Their business model is selling information to the general public...

I guess the AD is going to have to go back to getting its recruiting info from Nik like the rest of the well-informed fan base....

CU should could buy a couple of AB accounts. Nik is way better than those other cats, and he doesn't use "sensational" tease titles.

Oh, and the Junta's coiffures could use a little padding as well.

Good luck enforcing that rule

For those coaches who still want to "take a look" at the scouting service content it will be virtually impossible to even think about enforcing it. "Hey neighbor (or brother, or friend in other state, or whoever they know) I'll send you $15 bucks, subscribe to Rivals and give me the logon info.

Does this mean that other employees of the universities can't have memberships, how about athletic department employees who are not directly involved in football (or basketball?) What about a coaches teenaged or young adult son?

It took the NCAA years to finally do something about Reggie Bush's family living in a million dollar plus house for free and OJ Mayo looking at a pay cut to go to the NBA but they are going to stop an SEC coach from seeing some kids Scout video if he wants to.

That's okay, they will give a MAC school 3 years of probation for having an ESPN account.

How in the blue **** are they going to be able to make this a retroactive violation???
