Embree also announced that five players will not be returning to the team this fall, including two for medical reasons, senior offensive guard Max Tuioti-Mariner and junior receiver Will Jefferson. Both have knee injuries, and in Tuioti-Mariner's case, he has undergone multiple surgeries that has prevented him from playing since early in the 2008 season, when he had worked his way into the starting lineup prior to tearing an ACL in practice after just three games.

Junior defensive end Forrest West and redshirt freshmen tight ends Henley Griffon and Harold Mobley will also not return.

:wow: - Smell academics and workouts for [strike]WillJeff[/strike] and Forrest... The young frosh probably didn't do the same. But still. wow.

MTM - Thats a goddamn tragedy. ****ing injuries.
Wait, WillJeff as injury casualty? He was catching passes in the spring game (or so I am told..) - I smell bull****

Like I said before, Coach has his reasons and the players were notified well ahead of time. Obviously they were not doing something right.

Don't really agree with the MTM decision. Injuries are part of the game and for a kid to have his college education taken away because of it is a shame. Now if he's not cutting it in the classroom then adios.

We have depth issues everywhere. Logan Gray and Kyle Slavin better be ready to play quite a bit this year.

Anyone else wondering why we are keeping Hagan on as recruiting coordinator? The new staff sure does not seem to think much of the old staff's evaluations of a number of players.

As long as he's fine academically, he'll be put on a medical hardship scholarship with no issues.

Perhaps a Brian Griese-esque injury after the spring game...
Griffon caught a pass in the spring game too. My guess is Embo has looked at enough film and practice reps and is dropping guys he doesn't think can play at this level. WillJeff and Griffon were some of D II's diamonds in the rough. As far as I knew, I thought they were pretty good, but I am just Joe Fan.

MTM wasn't ever going to play because of injury, and that awas a crying shame, honestly, I wonder if that is how D II landed him, nobody else would take the flyer given his injury history. the guy was a beast when healthy.

Mobley probably wasn't getting it done in the classroom, but who knows?

Forrest West is the biggest surprise.

Somewhere, D II's panties are knotted....

I have to beleive that he is going to still be on scholly if he is on track to graduate. Just because he is listed as not returning to the team does not = his scholly being revoked

EDIT: BB beat me to it

Good thing about it is that it opens up more schollies for next years class. Obviously Embo wants the Hawkins leftovers out of here and his guys in here as soon as possible.

Don't worry about MTM. He'll probably be on the camera crew or something but will stay on scholarship as a medical hardship.

The other guys... meh. I thought Canty looked better than Jefferson and now Gray will probably unseat him as well.

Disappointed to hear about West but honestly the depth is looking daunting in front of him.

Roll on Embree.

what depth?

West is the only one that I am disappointed about, always thought that he was a halfway decent player. That said I still believe in what Embree is doing and support these cuts 100%.

if academics are an issue, then the players in question must be pretty far gone. finals and end of the semester is only 3 weeks away. can't imagine you cut a kid who still has a shot to be eligible with finals coming up.

It was more that obvious that our last head coach did not bring in the type player that is needed to compete in the big 12. Recruiting classes ranked in the 60's.

I was one that was very surprised when Hagen was retained. I will never know what the dynamic was between the DH's but it is clear that there were a number of offers that were rescinded during the last recruiting cycle and there are a number of players on the team that the new coaches feel have no business playing at this level.

If the others were not getting it done in the classroom I have no problem getting rid of them sooner rather than later.

I'm glad Terror Smith isn't on the list. Sounds like he's got a short leash.

Which is where i don't get the West move, the guy clear could play at a big-12 level.

Yep. Definitely something weird going on there.

I thought Nembot would be an OL eventually, but not so much now. He and Juda Parker might be seeing the field a fair amount in 2011.

Good news guys, AZ was able to confirm this....The rumors we've been juggling all day are true.
