DJ Wilhelm, a standout high school kicker who red-shirted his freshman year at the University of Northern Iowa, has announced he plans to transfer to the University of Colorado next school year.

He explained that the opportunity to possibly play in Boulder came about through his kicking coach, Matt Thompson, who lives just minutes from the U of C campus. Wilhelm met Thompson as a high school kicker attending a competition in Denver.

“He was pretty much in love with my ability and we have continued to work together for more than two years now,” said Wilhelm. “He knew that UNI was my best option at the time, but I told him to keep me in mind for programs that can help me achieve my dream.”

In other news, former Colorado prep (Cherokee Trail) and Rice punter Mark Brundage may be coming home. He has graduated, has a year of eligibility left, and is looking at CU's graduate school of engineering. If he's accepted, he would be immediately eligible for the 2011 season.

Adam posted about this on the Rivals board several days ago. No follow-up yet on whether it is happening for sure.

I'll work on profiles for both after I've put the kid to bed.

We should just have a rotation of kickers and when a guy misses one the next guy in line gets to kick until he misses one and so on.

Sweet.....fairly confident that anyone who comes in couldn't be any worse than our current options (particularly the immediate help @ the punting spot)

Brundage didn’t play last year but in 2009 he had 26 punts at an average of 44.2 yds with a long of 63, 9 went over 50 yards and 8 pined the other team inside their 20. Sounds pretty good to me.

nickle getting to RS for a year does sound good.

No thanks....no need to keep him or any kicker on scholarship 1 year longer than necessary unless there's a chance of developing into the next Mason Crosby or Tom Rouen (which i certainly don't see happening with our current talent pool)

Before possible meltdown, would the kicker be on scholarship? We have some extra schollies anyway this year, so if we can upgrade punter and give Grossnickle some more time working on things.. then that's fine, but we better not have 3 ****ing kickers on scholarship.

Grossnickle has already redshirted.

Weird to think back to 2009 and how a bunch of us were bitching that he was redshirting while DiLallo was struggling so much. In hindsight, the way DiLallo got worse every year under Hawkins/Riddler really said it all regarding their coaching of special teams.

kicker coming in from N. Iowa would be a walk on (invited). We got a lot of kickers. Winner of the competition gets the job. The loser gets a pair of Alumni Steak Knives and joins Davis (former kicker) on the injured list...

You need a medical reason to get on the injured list. Davis had knee surgery. MTM and WilJeff had knee issues. Our current kickers are both physically fine, their problem is that they were here while our last staff was.

And I agree, Dilallo going from a frosh AA punter to what he was as a senior is a testament to the last staff. Terrible.

Tonya? Tonya Harding? Paging Tonya Harding.

I saw something online last night (sorry, can't remember who to credit) that Brundage has been accepted into the CU Graduate Program in Engineering. Hopefully we can get some confirmation that he's here and that he's going to play football.
