Are stars overrated?

Are they?

I think it depends on position but usually a 5* is a player whom fully developed before everyone else did and thus have a very good advantage. Now the exception to this is QB but a lot of times a 5* have already peaked in their senior year of high school.

Another flaw with the star system is that theirs a huge talent gap in high school. Not knocking anyone, but look at Joey O'Conner. He'll probably be ranked as a 4* but he's playing against 3A competition where 3A players are much smaller than 5A players. Idk I've always felt that they were overrated at every position except for QB and sometimes RB but I think it depends more on the coaching the team has.

Thoughts?

Another example, look at Jimmy Smith, he was a 3* coming out of high school and now is a should be top 10-15 pick had it not been for "character issues".

Creatini you might have a hard time getting replies. Allbuffs has this thread pop up a few times per year.

Read old threads if you feel like learning about old discussions. This is ****ing ridiculous.

I thought kids were good at the internet?

I am but how was I supposed to know that their were multiple threads about this when I've been around for 6 months and have never seen one and the search function doesn't like me.

Someone is letting down their generation.

Wasn't that Mr. Garrison's vehicle?

I don't think stars can be overrated - players can be overrated based on the numbers of stars assigned to them, but I don't believe stars themselves can be overrated...unless you're talking about giant balls of gas in the sky in which case I generally agree with you, they just sort of hang there and twinkle.

The sun however, is vastly underrated - if that thing burns out, we're all in deep s**t.

holy ****ing ****, THIS is why I can't put you on ignore!

No skin off of my head. Sorry I made a thread that I hadn't seen since I've been here and thought it would be a good discussion since we have nothing else to bitch at other than Von Miller.

Based on message board comments, you'd think that no one believes in the star system. With rare exceptions*, every one of us (myself included) gets more excited about a 4* prospect visiting CU than a 3* visiting.

Fact is, though, it's statistically correlated with success in college and future likelihood of being a high draft pick. So we're right to be excited.

*Rare exception from the 2011 class: Everything about Paulay Asiata made me think he was one of the top 3 OLs in the west but he didn't grade out nearly that high. Scout had him as a 4* (#20 something tackle), but Rivals had him just a hair above a 2* and ESPN pretty much agreed. I guess we'll see who was right over the next few years.

Generally a high * prospect will be recruited harder which will bring more excitment when said person visits.

Wait, wait, wait...high star prospects are recruited harder...are you sure??

Actually, now that I think about it, you may be on to something here. Where were you 5 years ago with this pearl of wisdom?

Profound I know. And I was a wee little freshman.
