What does new TV deal for Pac-12 do for the CU-CSU series long term?

I have to say that the Rocky Mountain Showdown probably won't be continued past its expiration date. The MWC isn't getting a new TV deal until 2016 at the earliest and the gap between CU and CSU never has been wider. CU's $21 million versus CSU's $1.33 million starting next year.

I wonder if there is an out clause in the CU-CSU contract since CSU might actually decide to get out of the series.

CSU will never voluntarily leave the series. They need the cash they get from this game.

At least a clause that brings the CU home games back to Boulder. I feel like they did the deal such that it's set in stone for Denver, but I'd love it if it was not.

I was wondering the same thing? Does anyone know if there is any way to end this early?

I dont get why everyone wants to end the series, i know it isn't great of we win and is terrible if we lose but in my mind its the most fun game of the year aside from night games at Folsom. Now that we dont play nebraska CSU is the closest thing we have to a rivalry game. The fans get rowdy and we get to talk a bunch of **** when we win.

I would be less annoyed by the series if they brought the CU home games to Boulder. I am still pissed that we didn't at least get that out of the deal. **** playing in Denver every year.

Yeah, students really do enjoy the CU-CSU series. I know I do, it sucks for business but its a fun in-state rivalry. While it sucks it has to be at invesco, at least plenty of buses are provided.

My biggest complaint is going to the crap hole that is invesco to watch the game. There is no college football atmosphere and the 11am kickoff is a total joke. Not to mention the DPD in full riot gear prior to kickoff "patrolling" the parking lots.

This game should be in Boulder every year and if lamb fan doesn't like it, end the series. Bohn owes it to the CU season ticket holders and Boulder to have as many games in Boulder as possible. Now that there is the unbalanced conference schedule where every other year we have more road games than home conference games, the last thing we should be doing is playing in Denver.

Yeah I definitely think it should be in Boulder and i agree with all the complaints but I love the game. Maybe we can use our new money to make the game move to Boulder every other year lol

The reason Bohn accepted the game at Invesco is to ensure we had 7 "home" games a year. For the fans but mainly for the money. Now that money doesn't seem to be as much of an issue, this series can/should be cancelled or moved to Boulder

I would like to keep the series, but put it back on campus. Would much rather go to the Fort than Invesco.

So long as we find a way to keep the 7 "home" games i dont really care what we do with this but replacing it with a roadie i am 100% against. That said if it costs much to get out of the game or move-it I'd keep it. paying a couple million to get out of a game seems like a bad plan when we need so many upgrades and so much facilities work.

Its not CU's job to subsidize CSU. End it.

Just to play devils advocate:

With the new cash the school cuts our 5mm student fees subsidy. So our net from the Pac-12 is drastically reduced. CSU will want a buy-out given the number of games left (8?) is worth the probable 2mm it would take to buy them out as well as the lost revenue (purportedly 500K in "away" years)?

Our loss from this could wipe out a year's worth of facilities upgrades.

ummm. what? is that in any way true or just random speculation?

the 5mm subsidy cut is wild speculation on my part, but all things considered i'd expect it to go rather than count on it staying.

the rest: buyout (common sense) +500K in "away" years is (reported buy DC/DP).

that 5 million is from the student fees, yes? and is already extremely low? I don't see that going away, ever.

I don't see the series being cancelled prior to the expiration of the current contract. After that, I'd be surprised if they decide to keep it. I freaking hate the game at Invesco.

Denver sucks for the game. CSU fans are the ones that want it at Invesco, and they had almost the entire upper deck of their section empty last year. I could count the number of fans sitting in their upper section from across the stadium. The atmosphere is a joke, they don't sell out, and the security treats the fans like animals. The game should have never gone back to Denver after the tear gas incident that was caused by dumb ass lamb fans.

If the game were in Boulder, where it belongs, then I could tolerate having to play the goats. But I will not go to The Big Diaphragm to watch the game. As others have pointed out, the atmosphere sucks...

I want the series to continue. Really we should beat the Rams every year. They will come with an upset now and then but what non-top 20 opponent could the Buffs play that would draw as big of a gate as CSU? Would you rather watch CU vs North Texas State? Keep CSU as a softie on the schedule each year.

The years when CU plays 5 conference roadies, make CSU play in Folsom for the duration of the contract. I enjoy hearing their fans threaten to boycott games in Boulder.

I can honestly say that CU's 2011 opening day is alot more sexy in Hawaii. I haven't been this excited for an opening day since I don't know when.

I love a good football trip.

CSU at Invesco is not a good football trip. It's the least attractive game on the whole 2011 schedule, hands down.
