West's Departure Further Explained

In his best interests, Forrest has decided to take his athletic talents elsewhere.

The headline writer seems to have a different definition of "explained" than I do....

My translation: We cut him, so we are not going to talk ill of him, and we want to help him find a good spot somewhere else.

Help the kid move on and find a good situation. I'm glad that Embree decided to take the high road and attempt to end the negative talk about West.

Sometimes people find themselves in organizations and it's a bad fit.

I wish Forrest West all the best in his journey. It was fun watching him begin to blossom with the BnG.

So did West willingly leave the program?
Had nothing to do with any academic or disciplinary issues, a lack of commitment to the team, or any question about his ability to continue making substantial contributions as he has done during the past two seasons under former coach Dan Hawkins. In his best interests, Forrest has decided to take his athletic talents elsewhere. He is a fine young man and will be a tremendous addition to another college football program.
That's how I interpreted it.

wait...the high road is cutting a player, thus ridding him of the opportunity to graduate with a college degree because didn't fit the system?

Forgive me, but maybe I haven't been as on top of this situation, but what am i missing?

Well he came to school on a football Scholarship so if he's not on the team why would he stay on scholarship unless it was a medical reason where another player could get it who is still on the football team.
