CU-Utah moved to Black Friday

Nice. More national tv dollars. For all practical purposes, this is a non-conference game for both of us and any media revenue we get for it should be a nice split between the two of us. Remember, neither of us are participating in Pac-10 media revenue in 2011.

Also, this sets up nicely for the future. If we're both good, then CU-UU could replace CU-NU on the Friday after Thanksgiving as a national broadcast going forward.

I have seen different messages when it comes to the Pac-10 media revenue and rights...care to clairify things up?

This sucks. The novelty of the Friday game with the Fuskers wore off about 10 years ago. I see no reason to continue this, especially with a faux rival.

I wouldn't be surprised if the fuskers line up northwestern for the same date

Nah, Northwestern has actually made a bowl game the last few years. Unless you meant Northwestern Mississippi State School for the Arts, in which case you're probably right....

We get nothing from Pac-10 media in 2011. Neither does Utah. Their television contract runs through this season. It's the new one, starting in 2012, that we get the windfall from. We also get about $2.5 million (iirc) from the deal that sold the championship game in 2011.

With neither CU nor UU bound by a conference media agreement in 2011 (neither of us get anything from the Big 12 or MWC either), we are essentially free agents. Any revenue bump that CU gets as the home or visiting team appearing on ESPN or another network would be the same share as we'd get on non-conference games, without having to split with the Pac-12 membership. The more of these games (Hawaii, Ohio State, USC and Utah announced so far - hopefully CSU and Cal are announced soon) Bohn gets on national television, the more money we make off football this year.

At least that's my understanding. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Bummer. I was planning on making the roadie for this game to SLC when I could leave the home Thanksgiving festivities on Friday evening, but I'm not going to bail on the whole holiday to spend quality time in icy Utah.

Off-Saturday scheduling is for the weak and the broke.

I'll get excited when CU earns prime-time on Saturday.

That explains one reason why the cal game stayed on the schedule. We keeps the casshhhh from any TV showing.

That sucks. I was going to road trip out there on the Friday and watch the Saturday game. Not too likely that I'll get the boss' approval for a Thanksgiving departure...

Great point. This will limit the number of CU fans in Rice-Eccles.

Thanksgiving is NOT the time to fly. The road-trip logistics are way better on a Saturday kick-off.

Bingo! We don't have the Pac-12 money yet, but we do have some bills to pay, like a certain fired coach's buyout.

i don't know why everyone is upset with this. better to have a game in this spot than not... national exposure and all that... besides, maybe this will turn into a good old fashioned hatred-filled rivalry and then we will be glad it is on display for the whole world to see!

This doesn't really fit that profile, though. It's a holiday and it's a national feature game. For Thanksgiving week, Friday trumps Saturday. I always liked with the Nebraska game that I could focus that day on the Buffs and get to watch the full slate of other college games on Saturday.

I just hope to hell they don't move the CSU game to Sunday again.

With the BYU Zoobs ensnared in a marriage of hate, there's not enough room in the heart of Utes for another rival bride.

This CU fan seeks no 3-way with Donny and Marie.

Actually, I think it does fit the profile. The rest of the Pac 12 doesn't want our game interfering with USC/UCLA, Cal/Stanford, OSU/UO, UW/WSU, and UA/ASU all on Saturday. We've been relegated to the kiddie table.

Out of the 8 of us that all go to CU games together, none of us get the Friday after Thanksgiving off of work - we all have to take a vacation day to head up to Boulder or watch the game on TV. All of us were happy when it looked like that ended with the Nebraska series.

And if the winner is going to the Pac-12 Championship game, we have the national spotlight on us to make Saturday about some nice regional conference rivalries that don't mean much.

And if our game doesn't have title implications, it still keeps it from being buried as the least televised game on the Pac-12 schedule that week.

I'd say that I'd hope it's announced as a night game, but that runs the risk of it being colder than a witch's tit in SLC.

I do tend to forget that not everyone has a flexible schedule. You make a good point.

Actually flying on thanksgiving day is great. The airport is a desert. It is the days before and weekend after that are rough.

And one extra day of rest and preparation as well.

From the perspective of a couch potato who has grown all too familiar with unranked CU teams playing off-Saturday, any attention is better than none. I just hope CU doesn't end up playing in the same time slot as UT/Aggie or some other rivalry weekend matchup with more national interest.

CU hasn't earned the privilege of prime-time Saturday games. We've gotten into a rut. That means a short week for the players, too.

BTW, has anyone else noticed that the state of Utah looks like Nebraska rotated 90-degrees and sat upon?
