When you comment about a recruit on this board

do you, per chance, assume he reads this board? Sometimes, in the back of my mind, I kind of wonder how many of these recruits actually check out fan forums. If you knew that certain recruits did, would it effect your comments about them? You know, if a kid decommits, instead of "TRAITER, YOU STABBED US IN THE BACK!!" you write, "Ah, kids will be kids. Good luck to him!" thinking that if the kid sees how great we are he'll feel bad and come back.

I definitely don't assume he reads the boards, but I do assume there is at least a twenty to thirty percent chance someone related to the kid does. So, I try to be sensitive with what I say. We don't want anyone calling the cards for what they are - a bunch of :asshole:S

I assume that if they read it they assume it's just a bunch of internet scum, pay little to no attention to negative comments, but eat up all of the positive ones. They are, after all, stud athletes in high school if we're talking about them, which makes them cocky to some degree.

I just try not to post anything in the recruiting forums that could potentially hurt the program.

So that is why you try not to mention the free cars, the hookers, and the blow! I thought it was because you didn't want to make anyone curious about your own lifestyle.

Well, I think you can accomplish this pretty much by not embarrassing yourself, which some unfortunately do not have a handle on. I have had a couple of risque jokes removed from the recruiting forum, but I remember thinking they weren't over the top and that the mods were being overly protective. But that's okay, it's not my web site, I'm just a guest.

A normal teenager. Good luck to him.
I was being pretty sincere when I wrote this. Not everyone I want is going to be a Buff. I think EB said 9 out of 10 kids will tell him Colorado isn't the place for him. So you worry about the ones you do get, Not the ones who decide not to come to CU.

I no way was I thinking that the kid would somehow think how great we are (cuz we're not), and he'll somehow feel bad and come back. Where do you get this **** from DBT? :wow:

Besides, any kid who bases the next 4-5 years of his life based on the comments on an internet message board needs to have his head examined. If he can't handle some comments here, what gives you the impression he's going to be able to handle Eric Bieniemey?

I know for a fact that a lot of recruits, current players and former players read the boards.

Let's face it. It's human nature to google your name if you're a player (or your kid's name as a parent) to see what shows up. Due to the killer job the AB admins do with search engine optimization, AB is almost always among the first sites listed as soon as we have created a profile.

It's a big part of why we're so strict in the recruiting forums where everywhere else is kind of a free for all on this site. The other part of it is that a lot of people come here to quickly get info, so every effort is made to keep those threads from going off topic. I know that it can be difficult sometimes to remember that there are different rules for different forums (and sometimes to even remember what forum you're in), but try to be mindful.

Honestly, the members here do one hell of a job and I want to thank you for that. The most difficulty is, of course, right around National Signing Day. Right when we're at our busiest trying to get and post up-to-date info, we're also getting participation from a lot more people and a good number of them aren't going to be used to the rules in there. On top of that, it draws in new users and members who are naturally going to have a learning curve. Murphy's Law.

Nobody got bashed here. DBT is just off his rocker. I'm sure he's going through withdrawals not being able to hear Hawkins talking about the little things anymore here at CU.

That I do agree with. But there's a line. No personal attacks. Critique of his game should be constructive (i.e., saying that a QB will need to work on his mechanics) versus ripping on him (i.e., saying he throws like Lamar from Revenge of the Nerds).

Right. But that's common sense. I think 99.9% of the users know this. You guys do a great job of keeping things clean in the Recruiting Forum.

My guess is that he had to pull himself back from going off one of his patented Rockies style rants on Catalon for de-committing and he's trying to gauge what damage such a rant could cause (other than to his blood pressure).

Am I this pathetic? :sad2:

Or could it be that I wanted us all to be cool when posting about recruits? Nope. I'm this pathetic.

How do I put this... If you have an issue with any of my posts, and decide to open a thread on it, you could use the quote feature so people would know who wrote the post that got your panties in a twist.

It's good to have this discussion every now and then.

Important for everyone to know why things are handled differently in there, even if they don't necessarily agree with it. And as I posted earlier, people who are new to the board probably get thrown off by the hijacks and goofing around everywhere else on this board versus the more conservative way the recruiting boards are handles.

As long as you're in the mood to share wisdom, DBT... where in the Denver metro can I find a stylin' pink suit?

No, you're just that pathetic. If you have a problem with my comment, you can gfy. There wasn't anything wrong with what I said. Crazy old bastard.
