Cali High's #7 player for 2012 out of California.

He runs the field effortlessly and his fluid hips allow him to cut and change directions on a dime. He rarely drops a ball and has a knack for finding every seam or running lane available. If he breaks it to the outside watch out because his home run speed means he could go for six yet he is also capable of going head first at a guy to scratch out tough extra yards.

New Rivals article: http://colorado.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1189546

Marks, a shifty and elusive 6-foot, 175-pound prospect who earned the wide receiver MVP award at the Los Angeles NIKE Camp last spring, said Colorado, Cal, UCLA and Oregon State have been talking to him. The Buffaloes and Golden Bears have been the most active.

"I like Colorado because their offense is up-and-coming and they're getting a lot of good players," Marks said. "They're going to be a really good team. With Cal, they just know how to make good players. It's a great school, a great networking school and if you go to Cal you'll be set.

Picked up an offer from CU according to Brandon Huffman. Also now has offers from UCLA, Utah and Idaho and Scout has upgraded him to a 4* player and #33 WR.

New Cali High article leads me to believe that UCLA's in the lead here. But he doesn't know much about CU yet, so things can certainly change.

“I don’t know Colorado that well but they are moving to the Pac 12 which is a huge plus,” Marks said. “I hear great things about the campus, about the direction the program is headed in and I like what I hear about the offensive system they are going to run. I definitely want to get out there and visit,” Marks said.

I'm surprised UCLA, US, and Utah are the only big programs to step up with an offer for this kid. He good. Do want.

In case people were wondering why we are seeing SMU pop up so often with California recruiting...

Dennis McKnight, SMU's OL & Special Teams coach, is a great recruiter with strong ties to southern California. He made a huge difference for June Jones while at Hawaii and continues to at SMU. http://smumustangs.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/mcknight_dennis00.html

Still don't think we should be getting beat out for an unofficial by a socal WR by a weak Texas MWC team. It will be interesting to see how Kennedy does as a recruiter for us. Like many here thought, being an ace recruiter for Texas doesn't really translate all that well. I know socal isn't his area, I just hate the thought of getting beat out for a 4* WR by SMU of all places.

It's still very early in the process and just because someone visits a school it doesn't mean he'll commit to them.

No ****? I'm just saying, it would be nice if he was visiting us right now, not SMU. They are inferior in every way to us except this dynamite recruiter apparently.

I agree but I think you're getting too worked up over him taking a visit to SMU over us this early in the game.

I'm going to post some premium info that Adam and SD had on the Rivals board, because Kennedy is really good and well connected. People need to know this. Austin Vincent, the WR we were able to snag this weekend, would not have had CU on his radar if it wasn't for Kennedy. He got his qualifying test score and contacted the Iowa coaches. They didn't have room for him. Within days of that, he reportedly received an additional 7-10 scholarship offers. The Iowa WR coach is friends with Kennedy, so he put in a good word with Vincent and called Kennedy to give him a heads up. Kennedy pounced, quickly built a relationship, and got Vincent here for the only visit he wanted to take. Locked him down.

Beyond that, when Muschamp left UT and took staff with him, UT's recruiting class was in danger. It was Kennedy, not Mack Brown, who held that together. Kennedy's connections in Texas (especially the DFW and Denton areas) run deep. He's also getting word when players that UT doesn't have room for show well at their camps and whatnot.

He certainly needs to build his relationships in California and Arizona to capitalize on where there's a lot of WR talent in our recruiting regions, but I have no doubt that he will. He's an ace on the recruiting trail.

Good to hear nik. I don't doubt him, I'm just skeptical. Do we have him to thank for a lot of our offers in the DFW area this year, regardless of position?

Tini I'm not worked up  Now if he gets back from SMU and commits to them I might be a little upset. I don't know his situation so maybe Marks family is loaded and he can take countless unofficials, or maybe they aren't overly affluent and he won't be able to take many unofficials and therefore him going to SMU instead of us hurts us.

Also, scout switched him from WR to their #15 CB. I know he has played CB in high school, but it seemed like everyone was after him as a WR.

I am pretty sure Kennedy is responsible for almost all the offers in DFW, regardless of position. He knows about several kids we have offered from Texas camps. For example, OT Trey Keenan and DE Bryce Cottrell were in regular contact with him when he was at Texas and he is now the lead recruiter for them at CU. I think Kennedy is doing a good job for us there, but he has an uphill climb.

I also would not discount SMU here. SMU gives offensive players a chance to play in a great system to put up numbers, but also to play under a former NFL head coach. It does not surprise me that a WR would love to play in that system.

They also have a have a good location, a very nice campus, and good academics. We have those same things going for us as well but I don’t think it would be that shocking if someone chose SMU over CU, it’s not like it’s Wyoming. To say that they are “inferior in everyway” is a little harsh.

I still don't think we should ever lose a guy with no connections to SMU. June Jones is a nice coach, but his NFL days were a long time ago and it's not like he didn't have many of those same advantages in Hawaii. I doubt you'd find many kids from Socal that want to spend their college years in Dallas of all places at a southern Methodist school. SMU the football team is best known for cheating their balls off in the 80s and receiving the coveted death penalty and subsequently getting an ESPN show done about them. Any publicity, even bad, really is a good thing I guess.

I'm glad to hear you guys are confident in Kennedy. We need some solid recruiting in Texas in the worst way.

Dallas isn't too bad of a town. I hear only good reports about it from people, and from what I hear, it has a cosmo flair that is similar to SoCal. I had a friend that went to SMU as well, and he thought of it as a huge party school. I wouldn't discount Dallas, SMU or June Jones.

This feels like it's getting kind of off topic, but I'm not saying Dallas sucks or SMU is garbage. We're talking Boulder vs Dallas. I find it hard to believe many people, especially here of all places, would say Dallas is even close to on par with Boulder. SMU is not some crappy school, but is it not worse than CU? Maybe not by a landslide, but still. P12 vs MWC? Not sure I need to even argue that one. June Jones vs Embree? This is pretty fair and Jones certainly has more experience. Now you're going to argue SMU is a huge party school? Again.. comparing to CU here..

Ok, so before we turn this recruits thread into numerous pages of me arguing against SMU and how being the 7th best team in Texas is good, lets assume I'm a moron and move on!

White - we should win recruiting battles against SMU. I think the point is more that with the offense they run and all the Hawaii receivers that got an NFL shot from it, Jones has a lot to sell when we're talking about all-purpose backs and wide receivers. On top of that, they've got an ace southern california recruiter on staff to go with a school that doesn't have a lot of negatives other than being in C-USA. Playing in a BCS conference is a big deal to most recruits, but for those it doesn't matter to they're fairly tough to go against. I actually worry about them more than Boise State for certain types of players, if not in general.

Really not helping to put my mind at ease, thanks dickwad. :smile2:

Favors SMU and Utah.

"I love the (SMU) offense and it's a great school," Marks said. "After football, that degree helps a lot. Coach June Jones is really laid back and they're all great guys so it just seems like a fun place to play.

"Utah is a big-time school. They just moved to the Pac-12 and they have Norm Chow, he's one of the best offensive coordinators ever so just being able to play in the slot for him would be pretty cool."

The first whisper was from a friend, the second from CUatthegame.com this afternoon. Nothing confirmed, just asking. Bueller, Bueller? Anyone got some scoop?
