QB Commit - Shane Dillon - Two Sports?????

Interesting. There's certainly precedent for QBs who join the hoops team after the football season has ended. Donovan McNabb did it at Syracuse and Matt Jones did it at Arkansas, to name two off the top of my head.

Charlie Ward, Brock Osweiler (used to), Terrell Pryor would have if Tressel had let him (strict sweater vest)...

Ronald Curry at North Carolina. usually, it seems the coaches are all for it until the kids get to campus and then the "first order" coach decides it ain't going to happen. see this a lot with baseball in the old SWC school boards.

not a QB, but Justin Gage played football and basketball at MIzzou. and Julius Peppers also at UNC. in the last 10 years...

Your excessive use of question marks and exclamation points make your posts a lot better!!!!!!

I'm not a fan. I know there's precedent, but I want my QB 100% focused on football, mastering his playbook, and bonding with his teamates. Plus I don't want my starting QB screwing up his ankle or knee playing hoops. Maybe in his final year after all football eligibility is exhausted, but not before.

Exactly.

Do you think he could make the bball team and as the football staff would you let him? FYI plays on the same AAU Pump n Run team as bball recruit Matt Shrigley.......

I believe that Dillon has already stated that he is done playing basketball and will not even play his senior year. Said he wants to focus on football and getting bigger and stronger.

Dillon seems like a really sharp guy. I think he realizes that he is moving up to a level of football that will require his full attention to have the kind of success he is looking for.

That said, the BB shows that he is not just a quality QB, he is a quality athlete. At the BCS level that little bit of extra flexibility, balance, quickness, reaction speed, and the other physical characteristics shown by an effective basketball player can make the difference in avoiding a rush, responding to a blown assignment, and other times when an unplanned play by the QB can be the difference between a drive staying alive or not.

Here's ESPN's evaluation of him as a basketball player.

http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/recruiting/player/_/id/137680/shane-dillon

Strengths:
Dillon has ideal length (long arms) and overall a solid looking frame broad shoulders) that should add good weight. He has shown the ability to impact the game on multiple levels. Whether it's shooting a 3-point shot off the catch or attacking the offensive glass for the put back. He moves well without the ball and did a nice job of cutting to the basket off of screens.
Weaknesses:
Dillon is a solid shooter off the catch, but he needs to get much better with the ball while being pressured. He has solid quickness and decent bounce, but is far from a high-flyer. In terms of his approach, he needs to get more consistent, there are times in the game where he floats and settles too much for the 3-point shot instead of attacking the lane.
