Next years starting lineup.

Discussion started in Spencer Dinwiddie's thread. What does everyone think it will be?

I'd guess PG Dinwiddie, SG Brown, SF Roberon, PF Dufalt, and C Tunks.

PG-Tomlinson
SG-Brown
SF-Roberson
PF-Dufault
C-Tunks

That is a pretty big line-up. Tomlinson is a serviceable PG and I don't think a frosh will beat out a SR

I actually wouldn't be surprised with

PG-Tomlinson
SG-Brown
SF-Adams
PF-Roberson
C-Tunks

Dufault off the bench first

For those of you who weren't around in 2009, the debate was over which freshmen would play. Even heading into the pre-season scrimmages, none of us thought Burks would play much and were taken off guard when Bzdelik said that he might be our starting point guard to open the season. A lot of us were thinking after recruiting that Sharpe, Harris-Tunks and Hornbuckle would be the freshman who had the best shots at being big contributors.

Last year, we had all these great reports on Dre as a rebounder but we were all skeptical that an unheralded 6'7" 190 lb kid was going to be able to come in and do much as a true freshman. He ended up leading the team in rebounds, blocked shots and steals and I don't think anyone would have called that.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that we'll start hearing a lot over the summer and through the fall about how certain guys are showing it in pick up games and then in practices. Right now, it's fun to guess. But all I know for certain is that I don't know. I'm a huge believer in Dinwiddie, but maybe Cain ends up being our star freshman and causes us to go with a smaller lineup that has Shane coming off the bench? It's definitely a good recruiting class and could break in unexpected ways that make us a lot better and deeper than we think right now.

+1, and I think we go 8 deep with those you mention, Cain, and one player out of Sharpe, Dinwiddie or Booker. I think it'll be Booker actually that plays a lot, but I'm hoping for Sharpe to realize his potential. He's older and been through some tough times.

I bet Tomlinson comes in off the bench as a spot up corner shooter and late ball handler.

However, he has the experience and hopefully putting in some time this summer. Interesting to see how the battle shapes up. Can't wait to see Andre start.

I think the young guys are going to be seeing a lot of time and we are going to go deep on the bench. As a result I think that Tad may choose to start Dinwiddie (or Sharpe if he really steps up this year) and brings Tomlinson off the bench. This would take a lot of the pressure off Tomlinson and at the same time let him be a stabilizing influence on the young guys. Start the game fast then bring in Nate to control the tempo and get things settled down.

I also see Roberson swinging back and forth from SF to PF depending on who we are playing. At SF he creates a missmatch with his strength and at PF he creates a problem with his mobility and ability to step out and play on the wing.

Harris-Trunks will let Dufault go back to his natural PF position but the experience from last year will let him go to the post when we want to go smaller. Either way Roberson will be a defensive playmaker.

PG- Didwindle
SG- Brown
SF- Adams
PF- Roberson
C- Tunks

9 man rotation

Bench- Cain, Dufualt, Booker, Tomlinson

Maybe were all overating Tunks? He was terrible as a freshman and is coming off of major knee surgery. I know Boyle spoke vey highly of him prior to the season but lets not forget Bzdelik saying that Shannon Sharpe was just as good as Alec Burks, didn't turn out to be anywhere close to the truth. Predicting how good a player will be based on how he looks in practice can be an inexact science.

Maybe. As a freshman, though, he was about 50 lbs lighter and was playing with a right thumb injury that kept him from being able to grip the ball.

I don't see anyone saying he's going to be All-Pac-12 or anything. But he can guard the post, he sets solid screens, he alters shots with his help defense, he gets the break going with his outlet passing, he runs the floor better than most bigs, and he's got enough of a back-to-the-basket game to make a defense play honest. A lot of what he brings won't directly show up on the stat sheet, but it will make a big difference.

I hope that Mills gets a chance to RS, he looks like he is a talented kid and you can't teach 7 feet tall but he really needs a chance to build some strength. He is never going to be a physical presence like a Shaq in the middle but 15-20lbs of muscle would make a big difference in his ability to work in the paint on both ends of the floor.

Tunks is the one guy we have who is physically equiped to deal with the big power guys in the lane. He isn't going to take over games but is fundamentally sound and plays solid team basketball.

One question that JRK's post does bring up though is how much he will actually be able to play. Tunks is a hard worker and will have had almost a full year to recover but we still don't know how much time he will be able play this year coming off the injury. Will he have to cut his minutes or miss some game due to soreness in the injury or surrounding area? Will he have the confidence in the knee to allow him to go out and play full out? We hope and assume that he will be ready to participate fully but nobody knows yet and that could change a lot of things this season.

for Tunks to be an effective big in a big-time conference (though i think right now the Pac is a step down from the XII), we need a guy with no more than 3 fouls with 10 minutes left in a game. i wouldn't say he was terrible as a FR any more than the whole team was pretty lousy, really. better than Bz's first two cellar teams, but not exactly the 80's Lakers. JRK's hoops posts seem to focus on a player, drag him down, etc.

we lost games under Bz because in situational basketball we are trying "to execute"....not score the ball. and, because the other team is in the double bonus for the last 8 minutes of games while all our guys have four fouls. and when the opponent needs a hoop they toss it inside in the last 3 minutes. we can't do anything. we beat Baylor in the Big XII tournament and almost OU (two NCAA teams)....in the only two games i can point to that Bz let Marcus Hall and Roby create their own shots off the dribble. remembering that BU was a guard heavy, perimeter team with Tweety Carter, Dunn as a FR, and Jerrells.

i remember being in chat for that game in the afternoon and dancing a jog afterwards....but, really, in the long run that W raised more questions for me.

Sorry guys stupid question. I have followed the team pretty closely and the recruiting lookin forward to the recruits this year and Brown is gonna be solid, but who is Adams? Is he a transfer? Again probably in another thread or old news.

You haven't been spending enough time on AllBuffs this offseason and obviously need to closely examine your priorities in life. :smile2:

Jeremy Adams can play the 2 or the 3. He was one of the top players out of Mississippi in 2009. He committed to Texas A&M and he ended up redshirting. Went to a JUCO for a year. Book on him is that he's a great scorer but had to learn to play with other good players instead of dominating the ball and that he took a while to adjust to the pressures of college life and all the expectations. At the JUCO, he tried to do too much in the early part of the season and then progressed into a star player as the season went along. Assistant Coach Mike Rohn was Director of Basketball Ops at Texas A&M when Adams signed. They stayed in contact and Adams decided to transfer to CU after his JUCO year.

I know this isn't going to be a popular opinion, but I'm not ready to put Roberson in the starting lineup yet. I really think that right now, he's better for us bringing the energy off of the bench at the 4 position. PG, Adams, Brown, Dufault, SHT is the way to go IMO. Roberson will probably average as many minutes, if not more, than Dufault, but I'd rather have Austin out there to start the game and then bring Roberson in to take the energy level up a notch.

I agree with you. He brings so much energy off the bench and will also be in almost all of our rotations, so he'll end up with starter minutes even if he isn't a "starter".

Also, I'd really like to see Roberson extend his shooting range before we start giving him serious minutes at the 3.

I agree with Roberson coming off the bench. Obviously not comparable postition wise, but a Jason Terry like spark off the bench is huge for a team. Also I can seriously see Tomlinson playing a Levi role this year in becoming a spot up three point machine coming off the bench. In that case I would like a starting line up with PG Dinwiddie SG Brown SF Adams PF Dufalt C Tunks. With Roberson being a spark off the bench and Nate as a spot up three point shooter.

Been following allbuffs for a while now and thought it was time to become official. In regards to SHT, I have seen him at the rec this summer playing pickup games, and I can say that I'm beyond disappointed in his offensive game. He needs to adopt a bulldog mentality and fight for boards and get his points by working hard on the offensive glass. Hopefully his toughness will overcome his lack of athletic ability.

welcome to the board, and a good post to start with.

...however...you have no idea how disappointing your post is to me...I was (still am) expecting big things for SHT this year...

I like this little nugget --

Adams is counting the days until the construction of CU`s new practice facility is completed. He would probably be willing to throw on a hard hat and lay brick if it would help get the doors open sooner. For now, the returning CU players are spending plenty of quality time with strength and conditioning czar James Hardy. Adams, who signed with Texas A&M coming out of high school two years ago, said the workout regiment in Boulder has been an eye-opener. "I`m pretty sure nobody else in Division I is doing what we`ve been doing in the weight room. This is pretty hard," Adams said. "I was at Texas A&M, and this is harder than what we were doing there. ... Just the overall intensity level in the weight room and then the conditioning, it`s pretty tough."

I love hearing about the work they're putting in. There's a real opportunity in the Pac-12 for the Buffs to be the physical team that is able to muscle teams and run them out of the gym. I would love to see our team look jacked like Michigan State.

Agreed 100%. If we could be the strongest and the fastest team that outexecutes and out defends the '5 Star' programs like Arizona and UCLA, this will be the greatest days of CU basketball ever.

I think it's gonna be really hard to keep Roberson out of the starting lineup, especially when you consider he's had a full off-season to get bigger/stronger. I think he's going to make a serious run at the starting 4 spot.

Maybe he doesn't have confidence in his knee right now. It takes time and once that happens, perhaps he will get his offensive game back.

I would worry if Buffs players were showing lots of bulldog intensity in off season rec center games. Reaggravated or new stupid injuries from the offseason are not what the buffs need. Ryan Clady anyone? Save that toughness for the season.

After seeing how the lineup went last year I think Coach Boyle sets it up like this:

pg tomlinson
sg brown
sf dufault
pf roberson
c sht

W/ the the bench/recruiting class really deep in the guard position, I think tomlinson will start for awhile but one of the back up guards (sharpe, chen, freshman crew) will take alot minutes based on their athleticism and rock solid defense... just a thought
