Based on that photo, I want to nickname this guy "Predator" if he commits to CU. He's got the game to back up a name like that, too. He figures to be one of the top cornerback prospects in the west and may be a real shut down guy. Only knock seems to be that the 5'10" listed height may be a bit generous (not sure on that one, though). Ford transferred to Serra at the beginning of his junior year to get away from the hood atmosphere in and around L.A. Jordan high school. I think that makes it likely that he'll want to get out of LA for college (let's hope).

Greg Biggins' ESPN Recruiting Blog sounds promising:

Serra (Gardena, Calif.) was absolutely loaded this past season with eight players decide on signing day. Next year's team won't have the same star power, but will still be solid led by talented defensive back Raymond Ford.
Ford was a sophomore at Jordan (Los Angeles, Calif.), but transferred to Serra last spring.

"He came a long way," Cavalier coach Scott Altenberg said. "When he first got here, it took him a little while to get used to the speed of our practices and how hard we worked in the weight room. Once he got in to the swing of things, he made some huge strides. He put on about 15 pounds in just a few months and then went out and had a great junior season for us."

Ford finished the year with 45 tackles and a team-leading five interceptions. He added 16 catches for 334 yards and three touchdowns on offense as well.

"He's the best corner prospect I've ever had and I've had some good ones," Altenberg said. "He's not as fast as George (Farmer) but he's faster than Marqise (Lee) and has great cover skills. He's a tough kid who plays physical and is one of the few kids I've seen who can cover and come up and really hit someone as well.

"He can do it all and I think will be able to go wherever he wants. Arizona State just offered this week and he's also hearing from Colorado, Oregon, USC and Arizona. The only reason ASU is his only offer is because I didn't have his highlight ready until the last day schools came by and ASU was the only one who has seen it. Colorado liked him a lot and once his film is out there, I think everyone will offer."

ESPN is now reporting a CU offer.

Ford also got an initial 3* from Scout and 4* from 247 Sports.

I'd really like to see us get this kid if for nothing else than to continue our connection to Serra.

Per 247, Ford clocked a 4.39 40 and showed well at the UCLA camp this past weekend.

Rivals gave him its highest 3* rating (5.7) and ESPN is showing a "45", which means his review is in process and a rating is coming soon.

His height concerns me.

The reported 5'10" is most likely generous. I really like him as a slot corner, though. And after the DB recruiting under the previous regime, we really need to add as much speed to the secondary as we can even if we take some guys who don't have ideal height. I'd be good with it if Ford came on board even though his size may limit his potential.

He was never coming here.

I don't think you'll be losing any sleep over it either. :smile2:

Honestly, I won't either. Pretty good prospect, but there are 50 guys like him every year and his size limits his upside.

ESPN is sticking with their story that he's a 2* corner despite the immpressive offer list and 4.4 speed. Okay...
