CU: 32nd most profitable AD in nation for football + men's basketball

http://businessofcollegesports.com/...ketball-programs-produce-the-largest-profits/

Came in 2nd behind Washington in the Pac-12 at $13,675,426.

Nice baseline to be working from as the new media deals, Folsom improvements/expansion, and basketball growth come in the near future.

:gobuffs:

Actually, Colorado was 32nd in football profits, but 136th (out of 139 Division 1-A football and basketball teams reviewed) in basketball revenues, showing a loss of -$224,506.00.

The report was for 2009-10. It will be worse for 2010-11 (with the loss of Big 12 revenue) and in 2011-12 (while CU waits for the new Pac-12 contracts with ESPN and Fox Sports to kick in).

Still gonna be awhile before we can give a  to CU revenues ...

Edit: MontanaBuff beat me to it.

Actually, this list is looking at the most profitable individual basketball or football programs. Our #32 ranking is for football only. For instance, Texas is listed at #1 for football and #60 for basketball. Georgia is listed at #2 for football and #84 for basketball.

Thanks for the correction. I posted that without reading carefully.

All the more reason to get basketball rolling and why it's so important for us.

Is profit the best thing to strive for in regards football? The top p12 schools are spending $18-20 million on football, not the $12.6 million that CU is spending. schools like OU, nebraska, penn st, michigan, georgia spend in the same $18-20 million range on football. Sure Texas, Florida,

That said, CU's $26 million football revenue is pretty decent for the Pac 12. probably middle of the road, which is great considering the on the field product and the huge discounts the athletic department had to give on football tickets to get people in the stadium. The question I have is what is the financial state of the rest of the athletic department - and does that mean too much money is funneled off from football to support other programs.

The new TV money is going to make spending $20 million on football easier for everyone on the pac 12, too. but then again, it will make other teams jump from say $20 million to $25 million. It seems that there are a limited number of things to spend football money on (that is above the table things), so a $5 million jump for the p12 teams that spend in the lower tens of million will have a much greater effect than an additional $5 million spent by teams already spending in the $18-$20 mil range. In addition to CU, UCLA and Arizona would seem to be posed to make big gains due to the increased football money.

Oh, yeah the amount of money some of those SEC school bring in is pretty ridiculous. $58 million for S. CAR? They aren't even that good! Every one of their non-revenue sports should be kicking ass though.

I'm getting season tickets this year. :gobuffs:

^^^^^+1. Actually 2 because I am getting seats. My oldest son became a huge CU basketball fan this last season. It is going to be a great father son tradition now that he is really taking an interest. Cannot wait and we need to help Tadd keep it rolling!

Another +2 on basketball season tickets here. I have a few friends who want to go to the occasional game, but no one who wanted season tickets. So if any AllBuffers need a seat...
