Is there a limit of how many kids can do official visits to CU?

Or is that limited by how much we want to spend on bringing kids in? I never know when we talk about bringing kids in for official visits--do we have to pick and choose who we bring in? Do we spend money on some kid who just wants trips but is not interested, over a kid with less talent but really in seriously interested in CU? Do kids take an interest in who has visited? In otherwords, 'Hey, there are alot of five stars visiting CU--something must be going on there!'?

I would think who visits is not very important to the kids, but...the more four and five stars that visit, the better chance we have of closing some of them.

Each school has a limit to the number of official visits they can sponsor with recruits each year. I don't remember what the number is right now. There are some specific rules as to the length of time each recruit can spend, what the school can pay for, and what the recruit can recieve during the visit. There is also a provision that allows a school to carry over a certain number of unused visits from one year to the next.

Each player is also limited to 5 official visits so with top kids this is a limiting factor. A lot of the battle is trying to get a kid to use one of his five on your school. A danger here is that some kids will use at least some of their visits just to get a free trip to a place they have no intention of going to school burning up some of that schools slots.

Kids can also take unnofficial visits to as many schools as they wish but the schools are very limited in what they can offer and pay for on these visits. In addition a great way to get a kid on campus and in contact with the staff is if you can get them to come to camps. Again the school can't pay for these and in fact has to charge, and the school must make the camp open to any interested and qualified kid at the same cost, but this is a great way to get kids to the school and familiar with the staff. A lot of relations are build with the camps prior to the kids junior or even sophmore years of HS so this is an area that our staff is fighting from behind on.

A good example of this is Maurice Clarrett going to Michigan for a visit during the Mich tOSU game. He ended up standing on tOSU's sideline during the game.

There is a maximum number of official visits a school can host each year. I don't know it, though. It's hard to keep a handle on anyway, because the NCAA allows schools to bank officials so if they don't host their max number for the year, they get extra ones the next year.

It is necessary to be somewhat selective, but I don't know that I've ever heard a program saying that they'd like to bring in more guys but they have reached their limit and can't do it. So the selectivity is more about whether it's a good investment of time and resources to bring someone in. I don't worry about someone just wanting to take trips and not being interested. If he wants to come on an official, there is some level of interest. It's not like we're talking about a free trip to Hawaii or something.

Kids definitely take note of who is visiting. With all the camps and 7 on 7 tourneys, a lot of the prospects get to know each other these days. With the internet, it's easy for them to keep in touch and they do. There can be a real snowball effect if a program is getting blue chip visitors (especially if it gets commitments from some).

The comment by DPLY about Clarrett is a good example of why schools want to be at least a little selective about who they bring in. Most recruiting weekends a school will have a number of kids coming in. These kids will spend at least some time together and will have the opportunity to talk and share their thoughts. If you have a kid in who is negative about the school or otherwise has a negative attitude he can influence the other visitors away from your school. On the other hand a kid who is very positive about a place and who the other kids like can be the difference maker for some kids to commit.

I would not be surprised if the staff doesn't plan the officials of some of our already committed players to coincide with the visits of certain targeted players to influence them to commit as well. They may try to match Dillon with certain recievers or O-linemen, Henington and especially Norgard who bleeds black and gold with certain defensive players.

SHocked this isn't in stoudts recruitapedia.

:smile2:

I just checked the entry I did for Official Visits. 50 is the max I had heard (2x scholarship limit for a recruiting class), but haven't been able to find a confirming link.

I looked too. Forgot to even check that resource. Looked around and they just mention the 5 visits over and over-- but never seem to say what the number is for the schools. Double the max scholorships sounds like a good number-- can be applied to any sport as it easily adjusts to the scholorship max for that sport.

I wonder if the waiver allowing an additional 25% in the number of visits for a new head coach counts this year or last? I'm guessing last year as JE was the official HC on LOI day.

It would have been for last year and only if Hawkins had already used up 75% or more of the OVs. No way that was the case since Hawk and his boys did almost no recruiting last year.

P.S. Aero rocked this with the rule book research. Allsome! I'm going to update Stoudt's Recruitipedia now.

GREAT INFO! And too Flatironsbuff...........are you looking at kids taking official visits after sept 1 or are you reading that kids are visiting this summer? If it's this summer, those visits are unofficial and on their own dime.

Our last visit last year was early October, as I recall. He totally shut down when he realized the fraud was at an end.
