Finally, there's a chance he's a Buff legacy. There was a Ken Countryman on the CU hoops team from the same years that Embree was at CU. Seems like an awful big coincidence that they've got the same name from the same place and they're not related. (LINK)

Any of our long-time hoops fans remember Ken Countryman from back in 1986-88?

I really like his highlights, dude has really good hands and does some excellent work near the sideline. I wasn't excited at first because of the lack of offers, but yet again I think this staff has found a great player. He looks rail thin so he probably needs a redshirt year, but I think he could be a great WR for us.

The guy has legit seperation speed. That's easily the most apparent thing that pops out about him. When teams will be slamming the rock into the LOS like we will be, trying to establish the run, a guy like this is worth his weight in gold because the defense IMMEDIATELY has to account for him down the field and play the pass first. He'll lift coverages and extend zones. That extra second or two of coverage, could be the crease that forms that gets our backs into the endzone. Keep hitting the defense in the face with the run and now the neglect that extra second of coverage, call the PA and hit the long bomb as he's gotten behind the opponents secondary.

Embree and company have been hitting on these recruits. Rhyme and reason for everything. This kid is talented. Really hope we have a chance at him.

I also like the offer from Harvard. Indicates that he is not likely to be one of those kids who gives us a hit on our graduation rate. Hawk gave lip service to bringing in the right kind of kid then ended up with a lot of high risk guys who couldn't cut it in the classroom or as citizens. Embree and Co have offered a few kids who may need some extra attention to keep them going but also a lot of kids like Countryman who has performed well enough in the classroom to draw the attention of Ivy league coaches and who's family has already show themselves to know how to handle college.

Talent and character is a nice combination to add to a program, hope he's a Buff.

Spoke to some guys who know him well today. Some information:

- He's being recruited mostly as a WR, including by Colorado.
- In addition to the offers listed above, he has also gotten offers from Utah, Penn, Princeton, and Air Force.
- He recently visited Boulder and loved it.
- His dad prefers the idea of him going to one of the Ivy League schools.

And the bigger news:
- Seems as though the schools he likes the most are Harvard (where he would get early playing time) and COLORADO. In fact, the guy I spoke with seemed to believe that CU was at the top of his list right now.

Thanks for the info. Great stuff!

oh, also forgot to mention that he's much faster than we realize. apparently he's going into his senior year as the top athlete on their track & field team. nothing confirmed, but by the end of the year i think we'll see his 40-time at a solid 4.4.

Az reported that cc was one of the top 5 wr on the staff's board. This is good news.

Reminds me of Steve Smith, should use his first year to bulk up to get ready for the College game. Would be a great addition to the program.

puzzled by the lack of more west coast offers, because i think he looks pretty legit. great balance and good speed.

Welcome to the board 62-36, and thanx for the insight. Welcome rep coming your way, as soon as you get us a sammich and a beer.

Apparently he will be spending more time at QB this year, splitting time evenly with Brandon Adams, who's more of pro-style QB. When Adams is in, he'll be in at WR. On top of that, he's also going to playing cornerback.

I would expect he'd commit soon if he is going to. CU has 2 WRs signed and I'm not sure how long that window will remain open.

Beverly Hills High School
meaning what?

Spencer Paysinger (Oregon), Ron Monteilh (Colorado, Oregon State), Brandon Nash (Arizona), Adam Kennybrew (Oregon), Roger Smith (Washington State), Jabril Raymo (UCLA), Andy Clavin (Stanford), Jeff Joseph (UCLA), Lorenzo Bursey (Washington State), Sonny Shackleford (Washington) were all recruited by and signed with PAC10 teams in recent years.

There was some speculation going on yesterday that he had committed to CU, but Adam cleared that up on Rivals via a conversation with Countryman. He is still planning on taking visits this fall and has not made a final decision.

Also, check out the new Cali High article (you may notice something very cool and want to send some rep to someone here):

Can't rep BB anymore :sad1:

Again, I really like this kid and he would be a playmaker for us. Doesn't hurt that he definitely won't be a negative on the team GPA, either.

A bit of a disagreement between ESPN and Scout on Countryman as well:

ESPN: 79 grade, 3*, #43 WR overall

Scout: 2*, #194 WR overall.

“I have an official visit set to Colorado for (Nov. 11) and I’m looking forward to that trip. I took an unofficial visit in the summer and I love the campus and I have a good relationship with the coaches there. Coach [Jon] Embree is a good guy and I like the program a lot. I’m also visiting Utah in January and I’m going to set a visit with ASU for sometime in December.”

Looks like the kind of athlete that will help in a lot of areas (and the kind of athlete that we currently don't have a lot of on the roster.)
